  • Patent number: 5538591
Abstract: A tape cutting apparatus is described for cutting off a portion of tape (4) comprising first and second layers (4a,4c) secured one to another by an adhesive layer (4b). The apparatus comprises an anvil (40) and a cutter support member (31) carrying a blade (30), the cutter support member and the anvil being mounted for relative movement to bring the blade into contact with a facing surface of the anvil. The facing surface has a stepped portion (40) over which the tape is bent during cutting such that when the tape is released the first and second layers tend to separate from one another at the cut edge.

  • Patent number: 5534890
Abstract: A thermal printer is equipped with apparatus for allowing the thermal printer to be quickly and easily adapted to the type of paper currently being used without the need for testing and adjusting to obtain an essentially optimum print quality. The printer can also be equipped with a temperature sensor, attached to the thermal print head and connected to the computer control to essentially also produce printed images of uniformly high quality regardless of temperature fluctuations of the thermal print head. The necessary information for providing the adjustment values for producing the high quality print can be stored in a read/write memory connected to the processor.

  • Patent number: 5501539
Abstract: A blade protection device is described for protecting a cutting blade in a printing device which is actuatable so that a blade protection member is movable by insertion of a cassette into the printing device. A printing device has a cassette receiving bay for receiving a cassette of tape and a cutting blade for receiving a cassette of tape and a cutting blade for cutting the tape after printing. The printing device incorporates a blade protection device such as described above. Cassettes are also described which are adapted to actuate the blade protection device described above when inserted into a printing device. One cassette has an aperture which receives an upstanding part of the blade protection member. Another cassette has a depending part which locates a surface of the blade protection member to actuate the blade protection device when the cassette is inserted into a printing device.

  • Patent number: 5482779
Abstract: A label for use as a price tag on products has a printable recording medium which can be attached by adhesive to a carrier foil. The adhesive attachment can be provided by means of a laminated material having an adhesive action. To create a label which, by means of its adhesive layer, properly adheres to the product to be labelled, and which, after removal from the product, leaves behind no adhesive residue, the laminated material can be made to have an intermediate layer coated on both sides with adhesive, and which intermediate layer is configured to exert a stronger adhesive force on adhesive than the products to be labelled will exert on the adhesive. Further, the adhesive deposited on the side of the intermediate layer facing the carrier foil preferably has a lower adhesive strength than the adhesive deposited on the side of the intermediate layer facing the recording medium.
