  • Patent number: 6248050
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a thermoplastic hanging file folder, and the folder formed by such method. A web of thermoplastic sheet material is provided, where the web has a width with first and second opposed side edge portions. In a separate step, at least one thermoplastic support bar profile extrusion is formed, wherein each support bar profile extrusion comprises a relatively thick upper portion tapering to a correspondingly thinner lower portion. An opposed side edge portion of the thermoplastic web is positioned over the thin portion of the thermoplastic support bar profile extrusion to form a region of contact. In a bonding step, the thermoplastic support bar profile extrusion or extrusions are bonded to corresponding edges of the thermoplastic sheet at the region(s) of contact. A predetermined length of the thermoplastic web, having the thermoplastic support bar profile or profiles bonded thereon, is then separated from a remaining portion of the web to form the hanging file folder.

  • Patent number: 6193457
Abstract: A blank is provided adapted for forming into a file folder. The blank comprises a planar sheet having a first surface and a second surface. The sheet has a first cover portion joined to a second cover portion along a mutual cover hinge line. The sheet is adapted for folding about the cover hinge line such that the first cover portion and second cover portion overlie each other and the folder is adapted to receive sheet material therebetween. The first cover portion includes a tab extension along one edge thereof either adjacent to the fold line or opposite thereto. The tab extension includes an inner tab portion and an outer tab portion joined together along a mutual hinge line. Folding the tab extension about the tab fold line causes the outer tab portion to overlie the inner tab portion forming a tab which extends from an edge of the first cover portion beyond the second cover portion when the second cover portion is folded to overlie the first cover portion.

  • Patent number: 6152623
Abstract: The invention refers to a tape printing apparatus (2) used with tape cassettes (20, 220, 243, 260, 443). In order to make insertion and removal easier, the tape cassette is provided with a surface controlling the position of a printhead (22, 222, 322, 422) and/or a platen. When the cassette is inserted, printhead and platen are automatically separated such that the tape (24) can be introduced between them, and afterwards moved in the operative position. Further, an over center mechanism is proposed for moving printhead and platen. The tape cassette (443) can provide a 90.degree. bend in the tape (24) upstream the printing position, and the motor (42) can be located besides the zone for accommodating the image receiving tape (24). The cassette can be made attachable to other cassettes, and the means for attaching can guide and hold the cassette in the tape printer.

  • Patent number: 6092946
Abstract: The invention relates to a combination of a printing device and a tape holding case (10). The printing device comprises a zone for receiving the tape holding case (10) and a slide switch (32) in said zone. The slide switch (32) is movable between at least first and second positions corresponding to a first resp. second type of tape. In order to make the insertion of the tape holding case (10) easier, it is proposed that a tape holding case of the first type is provided with a ramp configured such that the switch (32) is moved into the first position during insertion of the tape holding case (10) into the zone when the switch (32) is originally in the second position. When a tape holding case of a second type is provided, its ramp can move the switch (32) automatically into the second position.

  • Patent number: 6079889
Abstract: A label printing apparatus for printing characters on a label. The apparatus includes a controller operable to perform various functions, such as (1) recalling stored common font data for each character selected and being operable to apply a scaling factor to the font data to produce print pixel data for printing the character; (2) deriving characters from the font data to determine sequentially intersections of lines and/or curves of the character with a print line extending heightwise to generate therefrom a set of pixel data for directly printing a column of dots corresponding to the set of pixel data defined at that print line; and/or (3) implementing a preview function which enables all characters of an entire label to be displayed at one time on a display even when the length of the label is greater than the size of the display.

  • Patent number: 6063226
Abstract: A file folder has a pocket disposed on one of its surfaces. The edges of the pocket and the file folder are in sheared alignment with each other. A method for manufacturing a file folder having a pocket is disclosed. Adhesive is deposited along several edges of a first web of material which is pressed to a second web of material to join the webs together by the adhesive. The combined materials are cut along one of the edges of adhesive to form a sheet having a pocket. The first and second webs have side edges which are in sheared alignment.

  • Patent number: 6017159
Abstract: The invention is directed to a tape printing apparatus having a cassette receiving bay adapted to receive a cassette which contains an image receiving tape, with a print head and a platen roll being relatively movable into an operative position ready for printing. At least one of the print head and the platen roll is operatively connected to a lid capable of closing the cassette receiving bay such that the print head and the platen roll are in their inoperative positions when the lid is open. In order to prevent the undesired effect of deformation of the platen roll when no cassette is inserted, it is proposed providing means for detecting the presence of a cassette in the cassette receiving bay, said means preventing the print head and the platen roll from being moved into their operative positions in the absence of a cassette in the cassette receiving bay.

  • Patent number: 6014921
Abstract: A cutting mechanism having a movable carriage and two cutters. Each cutter has an anvil that opposes a blade, and one of these is a roller that rolls against the other for progressively biasing material against the blades, producing cuts through the material. The rollers are rotatably mounted to the carriage, which is mounted to a lead screw that controls the position of the carriage. As the carriage moves across the material, the rollers roll, and the material is cut. The space between the anvil and the blade of at least one of the cutters can be varied to disengage that cutter so that the rolling of the roller will not cut the material. The engagement and disengagement of the cutter is dependent on the position of the carriage.

  • Patent number: 5967675
Abstract: The present invention relates to a label printer that has a plurality of keys for defining a label to be printed. Such keys include keys for defining the format of the label. The label printer also includes a display for displaying an image of the label, a printing unit for printing the label and a control unit for controlling the label printer to operate in a layout mode. In the layout mode, the control unit causes the display to display an image of the label in a selected label format and a plurality of layout parameters for defining the label format. Each of the layout parameters is alterable. Thereby, the label image displayed on the display alters with each selection of one of the layout parameters by actuating the format keys.

  • Patent number: 5969611
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for the surveillance of an electronic security element in an interrogation zone. The essential elements are a transmitting device, a receiving device and a computing/control unit. The transmitting device emits at least one interrogation signal into the interrogation zone. This signal causes the security element to emit a characteristic signal. The receiving device receives the characteristic signal and generates a signal which is an indication of the characteristic signal. The computing/control unit evaluates the signals received from the receiving device and produces an alarm when the presence of the security element is established. The evaluation comprises detecting spikes from the signals received from the receiving device, creating a corresponding signal shape from the spikes in a self-learning process, and removing the determined spikes from the signals received from the receiving device.
