The medical device includes an integral power source and an active element. The charging device is configured to charge the integral power source. The charging device may charge the integral power source through direct contact between features of the charging device and features the medical device. The charging device may alternatively charge the integral power source wirelessly, such as through inductive coupling. The medical device may include conductive prongs that are retained by the charging device. The charging device may physically couple with the medical device via magnets. The medical device and the charging device may be provided together in a sterile package as a kit. The kit may also include a reclamation bag to facilitate reclamation of electrical components.

This distal portion can be positioned against the tissue being fastened and can flexibly support the tissue after the layer has been implanted against the tissue. The layer may include a proximal portion which extends proximally with respect to the fastener cavities which can flexibly support the tissue after the layer has been implanted.

    Abstract: Devices and methods for sealing and cutting tissue are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a surgical device includes a pair of opposed, pivoting jaws, a cutting blade assembly slidably coupled to the jaws, and a biasing member disposed in a portion of the cutting blade assembly and configured to be received by a track formed between proximal ends of the jaws. The cutting blade assembly can be operative to open and close the jaws, and the biasing member can be configured to be disposed at a location in the track that applies a spring bias to a proximal end of at least one of the jaws. The spring bias in turn increases a compressive force applied by distal ends of the jaws, which in turn can maintain or increase a force applied to tissue disposed between the jaws. Other devices and methods for sealing and cutting tissue are also provided.

The drive assembly is operable to selectively rotate and hold the shaft assemblies in accordance with a predetermined sequence, such as to perform tissue suturing through a trocar in a minimally invasive surgical procedure.

The control module may also decrease the energy setting in response to an anomalous acceleration or deceleration detected by an accelerometer.
