Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for cutting rigid foams, especially slabstock P(M)I foams. A method is provided here, by means of which it is possible to cut these rigid foams even in relatively high layer thicknesses of, for example, more than 3 mm, without material loss, which is produced in relevant amounts, for example, in the course of sawing as a result of the sawdust formed.

Abstract: An extruded matt foil has at least one layer in which glass beads are uniformly distributed in a polymer matrix with at least one fluoropolymer and at least one further layer. The matt foil has a particularly high UV-resistance, a high weathering resistance and excellent mechanical properties. Therefore, the foil is highly suitable for surface-protection of materials such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and for use in high-pressure laminates (HPLs).

Abstract: A process for producing a light guide plate includes producing a colorless transparent sheet from a colorless transparent material by extrusion with a polishing stack. A printed reflector film is laminated in-line to the colorless transparent sheet. The printed reflector film includes: a thermoplastic reflector film which is opaque white or translucent white and made of a thermoplastic material; and a colorless thermoplastic printed on the thermoplastic reflector film. There is no direct optical contact between the colorless transparent sheet and the thermoplastic reflector film. A glass transition temperature of the printed colorless thermoplastic is above 25° C. and below glass transition temperatures of the colorless transparent material of the colorless transparent sheet and of the thermoplastic material of the thermoplastic reflector film.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the technical field of 3D printing, especially in the form of the binder jetting method, in which particulate material in a powder bed is bonded by means of a printed adhesive to form a three-dimensional object. The particulate materials may be inorganic materials, for example sand or a metal powder, or particulate polymeric materials, for example polymethacrylates or polyamides. For this purpose, polymethacrylates may take the form, for example, of suspension polymers, called bead polymers. The present invention relates to the use of porous particles in the binder jetting process, in particular of porous suspension polymers. These powders for 3-D printing differ from the prior art in that the porosity results in a faster and better absorption of the printed binder by the powder particles. A great advantage of this procedure is additionally that a product with less warpage is formed and that the end product has a better surface appearance.

Abstract: The present invention comprises a single-component binder for heat-sealing applications which can be used for the sealing of polyester foils, in particular of polyethylene terephthalate foils (PET foils) with respect to containers made of polystyrene, of PVC, and of polyester. These polyesters can in particular be polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or polylactic acid (PLA). The binders here feature not only good seal seam strengths but also in particular good transparency and excellent application properties. A substantive aspect of the invention is that the sealing can be achieved without addition of adhesion promoters, in particular without addition of adhesion promoters based on polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or on polyester, and that barrier properties and sealing properties achieved in respect of containers made of PS and of PET are nevertheless at least comparable with, and sometimes better than, those achieved with heat-sealing systems already marketed.

Abstract: The present invention relates to novel PMMA foams and the production thereof. Here, polymers which have been obtained by copolymerization of methacrylamides such as N-isopropylmethacrylamide and without styrene are foamed. It has surprisingly been possible to establish that a stable, simple-to-produce PMMA foam which has very good properties, e.g. a very high compressive strength, and can be joined more simply to covering layers, especially in comparison with known PMMA foams, can be obtained according to the invention.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of prefoamed poly(meth)acrylimide (P(M)I) particles which can be further processed to give foam mouldings or composites. A feature of this process is that a polymer granulate is first heated and thus prefoamed in an apparatus by means of IR radiation of a wavelength suitable for this purpose. Said granulate can be further processed in subsequent steps, e.g. in a press mould with foaming to give a moulding or a composite workpiece with foam core.

Abstract: A process for preparing a powder, which includes one or more human coagulation factor proteins and a lactic acid polymer, involves mixing and dispersing a lactic acid polymer with a particle size d50 in the range 0.1-2 ?m and the one or more human coagulation factor proteins in water. The dispersion is dried, and the resulting dried mass is compressed. The resulting compressed dried mass is comminuted to a powder with a particle size d50 in the range of more than 0.5 and up to 5 ?m.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for preparing methyl methacrylate by direct oxidative esterification of methacrolein. Methyl methacrylate is used in large amounts for preparing polymers and copolymers with other polymerizable compounds. In addition, methyl methacrylate is an important synthesis unit for a variety of specialty esters based on methacrylic acid (MAA) which can be prepared by transesterification with the appropriate alcohol. There is consequently a great interest in very simple, economic and environmentally friendly processes for preparing this starting material. In particular the present invention relates to an optimized workup of the reactor effluent from the oxidative esterification of methacrolein by means of which process waste streams can be minimized and process water can be recycled in optimal fashion. The methacrylic acid generated in the process is also optimally recovered and isolated or converted into the commodity alkyl methacrylate.
