  • Patent number: 4582246
Abstract: There is disclosed herein a flat top end closure for a liquid carrying container, which includes two oppositely disposed, overlapped outer closure panels, and two oppositely disposed, three-segment fold-in panels, one of which serves as the pour spout when opened. Each of the three-segment fold-in panels includes a substantially triangular panel portion defined by converging diagonal score lines extending from the upper edge of the tubular container body, and a pair of fold-back panels integrally connected to and folded between the substantially triangular panel portion and the respective adjacent outer closure panels. Diagonal opening-assist score lines are formed on the outer closure panels. Adhesive patterns to facilitate the opening process are formed on the outside surface of the three-segment pour spout and on the inside surfaces of the pour spout fold-back panels and the adjacent panel segments bounded by the diagonal opening-assist score lines.

  • Patent number: 4577546
Abstract: A gun sight positioning mechanism includes a slip clutch coupled sight slide that enables gun sight optics to be adjusted to extended firing ranges independently of gun inclination; a first range indicator fixed on the gun sight is associated with the sight slide to indicate the "range of target" and coincident adjustment of gun sight optics and a second range indicator is movably fixed to a gun elevating trunnion to serve as a memory of gun inclination so that a gunner will be able to remember to move (if required) the gun following manipulation of the sight slide to a different "range of target" position.

  • Patent number: 4577670
Abstract: A casting machine die evacuation system has a vacuum source for evacuating the die cavity during casting connected to a chill block vent passage through a vacuum cut-off plug driven by a high pressure hydraulic system into an evacuation position at the start of casting and into a vacuum cut-off position in response to fast shot plunger operation. The tip of the plug is held in contact with the chill block so that cast material flow into the chill block vent passage will flow around the diameter of the plug without acting to unseat the plug from its vacuum cut-off position.

  • Patent number: 4578447
Abstract: A two part RIM nylon-based urethane block polymer consists of an anionic metal salt catalyst in minor proportions and a prepolymer consisting of the reaction product of a diisocyanate with a mixture of a polymeric triamine having primary amine groups and a polyether diol in a large excess of a ring lactam which serves as a reaction diluent. The prepolymer preparation process is characterized by the immediate formation of a visible high molecular weight polymer gel which redissolves with continued agitation. No free or extractable polymers, diols or isocyanate is observed in the polymer product.

  • Patent number: 4574605
Abstract: The forming machine includes a load station adjacent one end, an unload station adjacent the other end and a first work station, turnaround station and second work station spaced longitudinally in succession between the load and unload stations along a workpart flow path. Each work station includes a rotatable spindle fixed in position on one side of the flow path and a tailstock with a workpart support slidable toward the spindle transversely of the flow path. An overhead transfer mechanism is slidable along the flow path and carries multiple workpart transfer members such as grippers to transfer workparts successively from one station to the other along the flow path. First and second pairs of forming tools are spaced longitudinally to cooperate with the first and second work stations and are slidable longitudinally and simultaneously in engagement with first and second workparts rotatably and transversely supported at the respective work stations between the respective spindle and tailstock.

  • Patent number: 4572856
Abstract: A stiffener insert is incorporated into a molded composite article such as an automobile dashboard by inserting the stiffener insert between a pre-formed plastisol skin forming opposed mold walls for receiving an intermediate polyurethane foam layer therebetween and partially compressing a porous, resilient layer such as an open celled reticulated foam layer on opposite sides of the stiffener insert to an extent sufficient to exert a spring-like holding force to self-center the insert between the mold walls and yet insufficient to cause readout of the partially compressed porous insert layer through the outer plastisol skin on the final molded article. The partially compressed, porous, resilient layer on the stiffener insert permits flow of polyurethane foam therethrough to fill the mold cavity and is impregnated with the polyurethane foam to securely bond the stiffener insert in the composite article.

  • Patent number: 4572426
Abstract: There is disclosed a container structure including a sealed side seam having a protected internal raw edge, and a method for accomplishing same. The method includes skiving or cutting a side seam flap along a taper to a feather edge, applying a sealant to the skived surface, and pressing the sealant-covered strip under heat and pressure into contact with the inside surface of the adjacent side wall panel to become sealed thereto without an exposed internal raw edge. Alternatively, the sealant may be applied to the side wall panel adjacent the skived tapered surface.

  • Patent number: 4568864
Abstract: A solid-state electronic control system for an electric motor which drives a pipe bending machine. A machine operator's hand switch acts through a logic system to cause the motor to run in either direction, and negates control conflicts. The logic system controls an SCR bridge system to select the direction of D.C. energization of the motor for forward or reverse drive. This bridge system is supplied from A.C. mains through a bridge rectifier comprising three diodes and one SCR. When motor drive is called for, this SCR is made conducting to provide full-wave rectification. When motor drive is terminated, this SCR is turned off so that the rectifier becomes half-wave, which facilitates turn-off of the motor reversing SCR's.A dynamic brake for the motor is turned on by a triac when motor energization is shut off.

  • Patent number: 4561218
Abstract: In the internal grinding of a cylindrical bore having an oil or similar groove which adversely affects the bore roundness achievable, one or more streams of liquid coolant are directed over the grinding wheel during rough grinding at a high wheel feed rate and only a mist of liquid coolant droplets suspended in a compressed air stream is directed over the wheel once the high wheel feed rate has been reduced to the lower wheel feed rate associated with finish grinding. Means are provided for terminating the liquid coolant streams at the time the wheel feed rate is changed or after a short delay period thereafter to establish equilibrium finish grind conditions. Preferably, the change from one or more liquid coolant streams to the coolant mist is made in response to a detected decrease in wheel spindle motor power.

  • Patent number: 4562025
Abstract: Apparatus and a process for manufacturing multiple color thin walled hollow shells for parts such as automobile door panels, controls and instrument panels from thermoplastic plastisol includes a plastisol box divider to form two or more compartments in a plastisol charge box and means for joining the charge box divider end-to-end with a mold separation edge on an open-ended heated mold for separating the mold into two or more sections; each compartment of the charge box has a different color plastisol. The charge box and mold are joined and then are rotated so that the plastisol is distributed into each mold section by gravity flow with the plastisol from each section flowing to the divider which separates the colors so as to form two or more tones on a resultant shell of cured material.
