Abstract: This disclosure describes systems and methods for identifying and ranking relevant and diverse image search results in response to a query. An optimum set of features is identified for every query. The optimum set of features can be selected from a predefined set of features and can be selected based on a variance across features derived from an initial set of objects returned in response to the query. The optimum set of features can then be used to re-rank the initial set of objects or to search for a second set of objects and rank the second set of objects.

Abstract: Method, system, and programs for providing enhanced query term suggestions. Candidate query terms may be obtained based on a prefix of incomplete query terms received. The candidate query terms may be ranked, at least partially based on, their similarities with respect to query terms previously entered in the same search session as the incomplete query term. In some implementations, for determining such similarities, feature vectors and/or signatures may be stored in association with query terms. Similarity between a candidate query term and query terms in the same search session as the incomplete query term may be determined using the feature vectors and/or signatures associated therewith.

Abstract: Techniques are provided that relate to online advertising, such as in connection with an auction-based online advertising market, including techniques for determining evidence of prohibited use of user segment information by an advertiser. Segment information may be utilized in allowing a targeted advertising opportunity for an advertiser. The advertiser may, for example, have agreed not to use such segment information outside of the allowed opportunity. Particular users in a segment may be identified and utilized as indicator users for use in determining evidence of prohibited use of segment information by an advertiser in bidding occurring after the targeted advertising opportunity. For example, later advertiser bidding relating to near-threshold in-segment or out-of-segment indicator users may be analyzed.

Abstract: Contextual or cumulative interpretation is applied to individual user queries to improve the accuracy of sponsored and/or non-sponsored search results. Queries are interpreted based on present features derived from a user query in the context of past features derived from qualified past queries such as those previously received during a user query session. Based on contextual interpretation, present features may be augmented using past features. A search is performed using augmented features instead of present features. Contextual interpretation of queries improves search system understanding of the context in which queries are submitted, which is particularly helpful when interpolating query intent to develop features not expressed in a query. Contextual interpretation permits queries to be interpreted and treated more uniformly and more intelligently. As a result, users and advertisers benefit from more precise sponsored and/or non-sponsored search results.

Abstract: A system for monetization of content includes a storage device for storage and retrieval of data, and a library of content and advertisements stored within the storage device. The library comprises an organizational structure for facilitating the storage and retrieval. The system also includes a monetization engine for identifying within the library a first content item having a first monetizable feature. The system is configured for selecting a second content item from several content items within the library, and associating the second content item to the first content item by using the first monetizable feature for presentation of the second content item in conjunction with the first content item. Further embodiments include various additional systems, methods, and computer readable media for implementation of the foregoing.

Abstract: A system is provided for recovering a mobile device by enabling an authorized user to remotely change the profile of the device to assist others in returning the device to the user. Initially, a user registers the mobile device with a recovery assist server. When the user is unable to locate the device because it is, for example, lost or stolen, the user indicates with the server that the device is missing. The device and the server are configured to communicate with each other, for example, periodically or, in another example, on device start up. If the device is identified as missing on the server, the operation of the mobile device is configured based on a missing profile associated with the mobile device. Once the device is located, the user indicates with the server that the device is no longer missing. When the device is unidentified as missing on the server, the operation of the mobile device is configured based on a user profile associated with the mobile device.

Abstract: A search-based email client may incorporate a number of useful features. A search function can default to a search of all email contexts, thereby eliminating user cogitation over which context an email message may be stored in. Furthermore, the search function can automatically search for related personal content and/or related information on the internet or other computer network, and present this useful information to the user in addition to the returned emails. The search function can be integrated into a user interface to allow for one-click searches on any likely search field. The search function can search the body of email messages by default, thereby widening the scope of default searches and eliminating potentially missed information and user need to proactively widen their search. A search function can search attachments, which also provides a wider search scope.

Abstract: A smart-sizing, browser-based widget uses both information defined by a user (e.g., a width value, etc.) and information provided by the web browser and web page within which it is being displayed, to calculate, in real-time, which of its elements to display, and at what scale, so as to make the most efficient use of its available space. The determination as to which elements to display may be a function of a pre-defined relationship among the elements.

The computer-implemented method also includes locking the online user account by using a mobile device. Further, the computer-implemented method includes initiating a user action at a later point of time. Furthermore, the computer-implemented method includes receiving an alert to unlock the online user account in order to perform the user action and obtaining an unlock password from the service provider. Moreover, the computer-implemented method includes unlocking the online user account with the unlock password by using the mobile device and performing the user action subsequent to the unlocking, thereby controlling the online user account using the mobile device. The system includes a computing device, a web browser, a service provider and a mobile device.

Abstract: Images are optimized to reduce latency prior to being transmitted to requesting client devices. A request from a client device for an image is analyzed to obtain the attributes of the requesting client device and the network used by the client device for transmitting the request. The parameters of the image to be transmitted are determined based on the attributes in order to reduce data latency at the requesting client device. A requested image that meets the parameters or which has its parameters preset by a provider can be transmitted without any changes. A requested image that does not meet the parameters is transformed in accordance with the parameters so that it is optimized for the combination of the network and the requesting client device.

Abstract: The systems and methods described create a mathematical representation of each of the media objects for which user ratings are known. The mathematical representations take into account the subjective rating value assigned by a user to the respective media object and the user that assigned the rating value. The media object with the mathematical representation closest to that of the seed media object is then selected as the most similar media object to the seed media object. In an embodiment, the mathematical representation is a vector representation in which each user is a different dimension and each user's rating value is the magnitude of the vector in that dimension. Similarity between two songs is determined by identifying the closest vectors to that of the seed song. Closeness may be determined by subtracting or by calculating the dot product of each of the vectors with that of the seed media object.

The system includes interface circuitry for receiving a search query from a user device and query processing circuitry for identifying search results comprising entity search result objects and non-entity search result objects related to the search query. Targeting circuitry determines a set of verb keywords associated with the search result objects and analytics circuitry selects one or more sponsored verbs for at least one entity or non-entity search result. Display logic circuitry is communicatively coupled to the interface circuitry and dynamically generates interface elements for each of the one or more sponsored verbs, and displays, in response to the search query, the interface elements as a sub-component of the at least one entity or non-entity search result.

More specifically, systems and methods have been developed for continuously monitoring and updating collections of media objects stored in a user's media repository (e.g., a “media locker”).

Abstract: Methods and devices for remote altering of static video content in real time are provided. A method for encoding video includes removing an attribute from a video including the attribute and static content. The attribute and static content may be configured to be played by a first device. The method also includes replacing the removed attribute with content to be played by the first device in place of the removed attribute. The method further includes embedding a synchronization marker in the video. The embedded synchronization marker may be configured to synchronize streaming of content from a second device to the first device with playing of the static content by the first device. A system for encoding video includes a processor and a memory storing instructions configured to, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform steps of a method. A memory may be a non-transitory computer-readable medium.
