Abstract: Crude oil (one of which is a high fouling crude oil) are blended to maintain the incompatible asphaltene thereof below a predetermined level thereby reducing the fouling tendency of the high fouling crude oil. Paraffinic liquids, LPG's, and condensates may also be blended with crude oil, while monitoring and controlling incompatible asphaltenes thereof.
Abstract: An adhesive comprising a copolymer and an optionally hydrogenated light color petroleum hydrocarbon resin including an aromatic hydrocarbon component useful for tackifying block copolymers is described which has a softening point of about 0.degree. C. to about 40.degree. C., a number average molecular weight (Mn) of from 350 to 600 and a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) of from 1:1 to about 2.0.
Abstract: A method for controlling a system parameter based on controlling a setpoint for a process control variable includes measuring the rate of input to and output from a vessel. The difference between the input and output rates is determined to provide an expected rate of accumulation in the vessel. The actual rate of accumulation in the vessel is measured. The difference between the expected rate of accumulation and the actual rate of accumulation is determined to provide a bias term. A value for the setpoint for the process control variable is calculated by solving one of a material or energy balance equation which includes the bias term and a term representative of a predetermined time period during which the controlled parameter is to reach a desired value. The setpoint for the process control variable is then controlled based on the calculated setpoint value. An apparatus is disclosed for carrying out the disclosed method.
Abstract: Method of characterizing the coking tendency of a baseoil, by:(a) exposing the baseoil to conditions which accelerate asphaltene formation in the baseoil; and(b) testing for the onset and/or progression of asphaltene formation as a function of time. The technique is also useful for determining the efficacy of oil additives.
Abstract: There is provided a process for preparing polybutenes having enhanced reactivity using a BF.sub.3 catalyst and an immediate quench procedure and controlled polymerization times of 12 to 40 minutes in combination with isobutylene conversions of at least 70%.
