  • Patent number: 5937975
Abstract: A vibration damper has a cylinder filled with damping medium. In the cylinder, a piston rod with a piston is realized so that the piston can move axially. The piston divides the cylinder into two working chambers. The vibration damper also has a damping valve. The damping force of the damping valve can be changed by a magnetic force generated by a magnetic coil inside a magnetic return body on an armature against a spring force of at least one spring. At least two regulating or adjustment parameters are provided to set at least two characteristics which differ from one another in terms of different flows to the magnetic coil. The characteristics can be set by a change of the effective spring characteristic with reference to a damping valve stroke position of the damping valve and also by the ability to regulate the magnetic conductivity of the magnetic return body by an actuator. The actuator can have a magnetic constriction, to which constriction a magnetic conductor body can be connected in parallel.

  • Patent number: 5938560
Abstract: A bicycle multi-gear hub with a coaster brake includes a hub body, a driver, a planetary gear arrangement and a coaster brake mechanism. The braking effect of the coaster brake mechanism is always boosted in all possible gears by the planetary gear arrangement when the driver is back-pedalled in a braking direction. The planetary gear arrangement can be shifted, if necessary, to always apply braking torque through a ring gear of the planetary gear arrangement, so that the planetary gear arrangement can be in the lowest gear of the multi-gear hub during braking. To shift the planetary gear arrangement into the lowest gear for braking when the planet carrier is connected to the driver for overdrive, a clutch member can be deflected by the planet carrier to disengage the driver from the planet carrier and engage the driver with the ring gear. The portion of the clutch member that engages the planet carrier can be configured independently of the portion of the clutch member that engages the ring gear.

  • Patent number: 5899308
Abstract: A friction clutch with a flywheel and a clutch housing has the flywheel and clutch housing connected to one another by means of a preferably cylindrical wall located in the radially outer portion of the clutch housing. The cylindrical wall can extend in a ring-shaped manner around the axis of rotation of the flywheel. The clutch housing encloses a clutch plate with friction linings in the radially outer area, and an application plate or pressure plate can be pressed toward the clutch plate by means of an application spring. The friction linings can be guided or extended radially outwardly up to directly next to the cylindrical wall, to make possible, with a specified friction surface, a minimum ratio of outside diameter to inside diameter on the friction linings. The friction linings can be connected to the clutch disc without the interposition of a lining spring system.

  • Patent number: 5896969
Abstract: A switchable ratchet freewheel, under load, for multiple-gear hubs on bicycles includes a bolted pawl, a drive, a switch bush, as well as a switch ring. The switch ring, which has a positive-fit connection to the pawl, can either be lifted by a bulge on the switch bush, which acts in concert with an incline on a switch nose, provided that a small or no turning moment is conveyed, or by recesses with end faces and timing edges, which act in concert with a run-up incline on the recesses, whereby the recess enters into a short positive-fit connection with the segment of the switch nose that faces radially inward, provided that higher turning moments are present. In case the pawl is not lifted immediately, by means of the bulge acting in concert with the incline, this results in the positive fit of the recess with the switch nose, which reliably disengages the pawl bond when the run-up incline acts in concert with the timing edge.

  • Patent number: 5884740
Abstract: A friction clutch for arrangement in the power train of a motor vehicle. The friction clutch includes a flywheel mass arrangement to be fastened to an input shaft rotating about an axis of rotation. A pressure plate unit with a clutch housing is held at the flywheel mass arrangement. A contact-pressure plate is guided so as to be axially displaceable relative to the clutch housing and the flywheel mass arrangement. A clutch spring arrangement axially spring loads the contact-pressure plate toward the flywheel mass arrangement. A clutch disk with friction facings projects between, on the one side, friction surfaces of the flywheel mass arrangement which are located axially opposite one another and, on the other side, the contact-pressure plate. The flywheel mass arrangement and the contact-pressure plate are coupled with one another in a torsionally elastic manner with reference to the axis of rotation in order to limit the peak torque transmitted through the friction clutch.
