  • Patent number: 5878856
Abstract: A flywheel device has at least two inertial masses which can rotate relative to one another against the action of elastic elements of a damping device, one of which inertial masses, namely the output-side inertial mass which is farther from a drive system, such as for example the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine, is guided both radially and axially by way of a bearing arrangement with respect to the input-side inertial mass. The bearing arrangement has at least one axial plain bearing and one radial plain bearing. Both plain bearings guide the output-side inertial mass with respect to the input-side inertial mass with a clearance, the size of which is determined so that when a wobbling motion is introduced from the crankshaft to the input-side inertial mass, the output-side inertial mass, under the effect of centrifugal forces, can perform a self-stabilization.

  • Patent number: 5860498
Abstract: A shock absorber for a motor vehicle has a single-tube construction with an adjustable damping force. The shock absorber includes a cylinder tube and a piston rod guide inside which a piston rod with a piston is located so that the piston can move axially. The piston divides the cylinder tube into two work chambers. A container tube encloses the cylinder tube, at least in segments. Between the cylinder tube and the container tube at least one hydraulic connection, extending from one of the work chambers via an overflow orifice to a damping force adjustment valve located outside the container tube, is formed. A cylinder tube guide centers the cylinder tube with respect to the container tube. The damping force adjustment valve has two connection openings, one of which openings is separated from the other by a wall. The damping force adjustment valve is connected to the hydraulic connection, so that the container tube extends over the entire length of the hydraulic connection to the piston rod guide.

  • Patent number: 5848676
Abstract: A vibration damper for a motor vehicle is taught, which vibration damper has a cylinder tube in which a piston rod which is centered by a piston rod guide can move axially. A container tube encloses the cylinder tube, and the container tube is made of a material which has a significantly higher coefficient of thermal expansion than the material of the cylinder tube. Aluminum is an example if the container tube material. A compensation device compensates for the length difference between the cylinder tube and the container tube at temperatures below and above the temperature at which the vibration damper is manufactured. The container tube is characterized by the fact that preferably at least two expansion beads are formed in the wall of the container tube. The expansion beads compensate for thermal changes in length of the container tube and hold the cylinder tube under a bias with respect to the container tube over the entire range of operating temperatures.

  • Patent number: 5847272
Abstract: To be able to verify the function of the actuator system of an automatic clutch or of an automatic transmission of a motor vehicle as a function of the current conditions, including while the motor vehicle is in motion is necessary, the invention teaches that a test circuit actuates the actuator system, starting from a first specified operating position of the clutch or of the transmission to a second specified operating position of the clutch or of the transmission, into an actuator test position in which the clutch or the transmission is still essentially in its first operating position. The test circuit, in the actuator test position, tests the functional capability as a function of data stored in a data memory, which stored data are compared to data measured in the actuator test position of a changing operating parameter.

  • Patent number: 5836216
Abstract: An inertial mass device is realized with at least two inertial masses which can rotate relative to one another, one of which is connected to a hub disc which is effectively connected to elastic elements of a damping device and preferably with its radially inner area forms a hub for the location of a bearing arrangement. Corresponding to the hub disc there is at least one planet wheel of a planetary gear train which acts between the inertial masses. The hub disc, on its side facing away from the planet wheel, on a specified radius around its axis of rotation, has indentations formed in the peripheral direction at specified intervals, each of which indentations forms a projection toward the planet wheel on the opposite side of the hub disc, whereby the projections form a toothing on the hub disc, by means of which the hub disc is engaged with the toothing of the planet wheel for the transmission of a torque between the inertial masses.

  • Patent number: 5829567
Abstract: A clutch disc includes an elastic mounting to absorb both wobbling movement and to compensate for axially offsetting transmission components. Between the hub and the components which can rotate with respect to the hub, there is a spring element which makes it possible by means of two different types of fingers to accomplish both a radially elastic centering and an axially elastic clamping. The clutch disc can thereby absorb both wobbling movements and axial offsets.

  • Patent number: 5830096
Abstract: A bicycle power train for bicycles, the bicycle power train including a driving sprocket set and a driven sprocket set. A chain connects the driving sprocket set and the driven sprocket set to one another. The chain transfers torque from a sprocket of the driving sprocket set to a sprocket of the driven sprocket set. The torque is transferred to the chain from the driving sprocket via drive teeth disposed on the driving sprocket. The drive teeth each include a drive flank that engages a corresponding link roller of the chain. Each drive flank has a bevel formed thereon, the bevel being shaped to compensate for the lengthening of the chain with wear. The bevel is configured to maximize the number of drive teeth that can simultaneously engage the chain and participate in the transfer of torque over the life of the chain.
