Publication number: 20070142759Abstract: A foot splint for the prevention and rehabilitation of plantar fasciitis by maintaining a wearer's foot and, hence, his plantar fascia in a pre-selected amount of dorsiflexion. The foot splint includes a footplate for supporting the wearer's foot, a bracket integrally attached to the footplate near the heel region, where the bracket has at least one ankle angle preset, a strut (either medial, lateral, or both sides) extending along the lower leg of the wearer, a strut sleeve removably enveloping the strut. The sleeve has an upper end and a lower end, and the strut protrudes from the lower end of the sleeves. There is an adjustable leg strap attached to the strut sleeve at the upper end. The strap secures the upper end to the leg of a wearer during operation. A padded insole may be provided to cushion the wearer's foot from the footplate. The foot splint provides a comfortable “slipper-like” feel for the wearer.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 2, 2007Publication date: June 21, 2007Applicant: FLA Orthopedics, Inc.Inventors: E. Patent number: 7182743Abstract: A foot splint for the prevention and rehabilitation of plantar fasciitis by maintaining a wearer's foot and, hence, his plantar fascia, in a preselected amount of dorsiflexion. The foot splint includes a footplate for supporting the wearer's foot, a lateral strut extending along the lower leg of the wearer and having a strap for releaseably attaching the strut to the wearer's leg, and a wrap for wrapping around the foot of the wearer. A soft insole may be provided to cushion the wearer's foot from the footplate. The wrap, insole and footplate provide a comfortable “slipper-like” feel for the wearer. Moreover, the foot splint is particularly suited for use during sleep since it is light-weight and open configuration allows for the wearer to move unimpeded between sleep positions, resulting in a more restful sleep. Moreover, the lateral placement of the strut keeps the rigid portions of the foot splint from inadvertently abrading, striking, or otherwise interfering with the wearer's other leg.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 2004Date of Patent: February 27, 2007Assignee: FLA Orthopedics, Inc.Inventors: E. Patent number: 6994681Abstract: The invention is a disposable liner for an AFO/contracture foot splint that is sufficiently soft and flexible so as to comfortably conform to body surfaces and provide a substantially close fit to prevent leakage. The liner has a fluid permeable layer, an absorbent layer, and a moisture-proof layer which is a liquid impervious back sheet disposed on the outer surface of the liner. The liner has a toe end, a foot region, a leg end, a leg region and a heel region. The foot region has winged extensions terminated with fastening elements for securing the foot region. The leg end of the liner has tabular extensions terminated with re-closable fastening elements for securing the leg region of the disposable liner to the leg. The heel region of the liner has an opening, which enables a portion of the wearer's heel to project through the heel region into heel “well” of a splint.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2003Date of Patent: February 7, 2006Assignee: FLA Orthopedics, Inc.Inventors: E. Patent number: 6740056Abstract: A universal carpal tunnel device for supporting the hand in a neutral position to alleviate and prevent the carpal tunnel syndrome. The device includes a pad for placement against a wearer, a base attached to the pad, a stay disposed between the pad and base, and an adjustment strap for attaching the device to the wearer. The pad or the base can be provided with a recessed channel for receiving the stay. The pad, base and stay form a palmar section of the device which extends over the heel of the hand and terminates prior to the palmar fold of the hand so to not unnecessarily restrict movement of the wearer's hand and digits, and a main section for engaging the forearm of the wearer. The palmar section also has a sufficient width for preventing opposition between the thumb and the fifth digit of the hand. The device laterally has first and second sides which are mirror images of each other so that the carpal tunnel device can be used on either the right or left hand.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 2001Date of Patent: May 25, 2004Assignee: FLA Orthopedics, Inc.Inventor: E. Patent number: 6622719Abstract: Disclosed is an improved hernia device which includes an undergarment brief having front, side, rear and crotch portions defining spaced leg openings wherein the front portion has one or two truss pads supported from its inner surface to protrude inwardly of the brief to engage and support abdominal hernia areas of the body of a wearer; with the truss pads independently held in position and urged toward the body of the wearer by a pair of straps having inner ends secured to the center of the front portion and extending in opposite directions with distal ends independently and adjustably secured to side portions forward of opposite lateral side centers of the hips of the wearer. Also disclosed is the use of a two piece seat or rear panel having a heavier upper portion of heavier material which assists in providing back support while carrying and distributing tension which may be transferred by the tension straps.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 2002Date of Patent: September 23, 2003Assignee: FLA Orthopedics, Inc.Inventors: Ernest Gerald Slautterback, Rhonda M. Patent number: 6517501Abstract: A user wearable wrist support formed of low temperature moldable, formable plastic, normally closed-cell foam laminated between surface sheets of fabric. The wrist support comprises a curvate clasp having a generally self-supporting C shaped cross section, with the clasp encircling the wrist of the wearer. The clasp is secured in position by a strap. A palmar stay extends transverse of the clasp onto a palmar pad integrally extending from a side of the clasp. In one embodiment the clasp is provided with outwardly extending wrist support rests alongside the stay for supporting the clasp on a planar surface. In another embodiment the support comprises two sheets of plastic material of different densities and hardness sandwiching and embedding a stay therebetween. The device is fabricated by first creating a sheet of foam laminated with at least one surface fabric sheet. Blanks for forming the clasp are cut from the foam sheet and subjected to selective compression, heat, and molding to form the support.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 2000Date of Patent: February 11, 2003Assignee: FLA Orthopedics, Inc.Inventor: Ernest Gerald Slautterback
