  • Patent number: 8952132
Abstract: Methods and compositions involving polypeptides having an aglycosylated antibody Fc domain. In certain embodiments, polypeptides have an aglycosylated Fc domain that contains one or more substitutions compared to a native Fc domain. Additionally, some embodiments involve an Fc domain that is binds some Fc receptors but not others. For example, polypeptides are provided with an aglycosylated Fc domain that selectively binds Fc?RIIa, but that is significantly reduced for binding to the highly homologous Fc?RIIb receptors. Furthermore, methods and compositions are provided for promoting antibody-dependent cell-mediated toxicity (ADCC) using a polypeptide having a modified aglycosylated Fc domain and a second non-Fc binding domain, which can be an antigen binding region of an antibody or a non-antigen binding region. Some embodiments concern antibodies with such polypeptides, which may have the same or different non-Fc binding domain.

  • Patent number: 8953411
Abstract: Provided are an apparatus and method for imaging a subsurface using frequency-domain reverse-time migration in elastic medium. The subsurface imaging method represents a frequency-domain imaging condition as convolution of measured data and a partial derivative wavefield. That is, the subsurface imaging method applies a back-propagation algorithm to represent an imaging condition as convolution of a virtual source and a back-propagated wavefield. Then, the subsurface imaging method divides a virtual source vector and the back-propagated wavefield represented by a displacement vector into P- and S-wave potentials through Helmholtz decomposition, thereby providing a new imaging condition.

  • Patent number: 8953239
Abstract: A method of designing a nanophotonic scattering structure can include establishing an initial design having an array of discrete pixels variable between at least two pixel height levels. A performance metric for the structure can be a function of the heights of the pixels. The height of a pixel can be varied, and then the performance metric can be calculated. The steps of varying the pixel height and calculating the performance metric can be repeated to increase the performance metric. The above steps can be repeated for each pixel within the array and then the method can be iterated until the performance metric reaches an optimized value. Nanophotonic scattering structures can be produced from designs obtained through this process.

  • Patent number: 8952693
Abstract: A method for calculating a mechanical property of a material using a magnetic resonance imaging (“MRI”) system is provided. The method is particularly robust to image data having low signal-to-noise ratio (“SNR”). An MRI system is used to acquire magnetic resonance elastography (“MRE”) data from a subject containing the material. Exemplary materials include lung tissue. Images are reconstructed from the MRE data and used to produce a wave image from which a spatial frequency spectrum is produced. A principal frequency of the spatial frequency spectrum is produced and used to calculate a mechanical property of the material. For example, shear stiffness may be calculated.
