Abstract: Disclosed herein are point mutations in the LMNA gene that cause HGPS. These mutations activate a cryptic splice site within the LMNA gene, which leads to deletion of part of exon 11 and generation of a mutant Lamin A protein product that is 50 amino acids shorter than the normal protein. In addition to the novel Lamin A variant protein and nucleic acids encoding this variant, methods of using these molecules in detecting biological conditions associated with a LMNA mutation in a subject (e.g., HGPS, arteriosclerosis, and other age-related diseases), are also described. Oligonucleotides and other compounds for use in examples of the described methods are also provided, as are protein-specific binding agents, such as antibodies, that bind specifically to at least one epitope of a Lamin A variant protein preferentially compared to wildtype Lamin A, and methods of using such antibodies in diagnosis, treatment, and screening.

Abstract: A split thin-flow separations device can include a fluid channel having an inlet zone, an outlet zone, and a transport region between the inlet zone and outlet zone. The inlet zone includes a sample inlet and a carrier fluid inlet which are fluidly separated by an inlet splitter to minimize mixing of fluids from respective inlets in the inlet zone. The transport region can be a substantially open channel. Similar to the inlet zone, the outlet zone can include a sample outlet and a carrier outlet which are fluidly separated by an outlet splitter to segregate portions of a fluid into each of the two outlets as the fluid enters the outlet zone. A plurality of cross-flow inducers can also be oriented along a wall of the fluid channel in the transport region. The cross-flow inducers are oriented to form a cross-flow field across the transport region.

Abstract: A router, implemented in hardware and/or hardware in combination with software for routing packets, so as to limit congestion. The router monitors incoming data flows as well as the queue length of its buffer to control the rate of incoming data flows via a flow controller. The flow controller uses at least one of: a Smith predictor, a proportional-integral controller, a proportional-derivative controller, and a proportional controller.
Abstract: Water-soluble electrically conductive polymers and a composition comprising such polymers are provided. Also, an electrically conductive layer or film formed from the composition, and articles comprising the electrically conductive layer or film are provided. The electrically conductive polymers according to the present disclosure have one or more hydrophilic side chains. Hydrophilic side chains are covalently bonded to the conductive polymers, which allow the polymer to be stable at high temperature. Thus, the stability of electrical conductivity is prolonged. Depending on the concentration of hydrophilic side chains, the conductivity may be changed. The hydrophilic side chains provide a successful way to fabricate a ductile film exhibiting tunable conductivity. Furthermore, high levels of surface-resistance uniformity can be achieved in the field of coating technology that uses eco-friendly water-based solvents to uniformly and quickly coat the conductive polymer on to plastic film surfaces.

Abstract: The subject invention concerns materials and methods for providing plants or plant tissue with increased resistance to heat conditions and/or increased starch biosynthesis. Increased resistance of a plant or plant tissue to heat conditions provides for decreased yield losses as compared to the yield losses generally observed at elevated temperatures. One aspect of the invention concerns polynucleotides that encode a mutant plant small subunit of AGPase. The subject invention also comprises a mutant plant small subunit of AGPase encoded by a polynucleotide of the invention. The subject invention also concerns plants comprising a polynucleotide of the invention and method for making the plants.
