Abstract: Deformation maps (e.g. deformation vector fields) used for correcting image-type data used in the treatment of patients in radiotherapy may be processed to eliminate inverse inconsistency and transitivity type errors which produce different results depending on the order or path of the calculation of deformation. The correction permits registration of a treatment plan with the changing patient image and accumulation of dose to a common reference frame without transformation dependent artifacts.

Abstract: Disclosed is a BSLM method of generating U independent alternative symbol sequences by changing a phase of symbol sequences by phase sequences and transmitting the alternative symbol sequences with a PAPR to lower the PARR of a transmission signal of a transmitter in an OFDM system. The transmitter uses m-sequences as the phase sequence and a receiver uses an ML decoder to distinguish the phase sequence. The BSLM method includes rotating phases in blocks according to the m-sequences used in the respective symbol sequences, selecting a signal sequence with a minimum PAPR among U alternative signal sequences generated by the m-sequences in the transmitter, and partitioning U alternative symbol sequences into U/2 blocks in the transmitter. Block partitioning and predetermined phase rotation are used to embed side information in an alternative signal sequence, and the BSLM scheme may be extended to a BPTS.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for enhanced THz radiation coupling to molecules, includes the steps of depositing a test material near the discontinuity edges of a slotted member, and enhancing the THz radiation by transmitting THz radiation through the slots. The molecules of the test material are illuminated by the enhanced THz radiation that has been transmitted through the slots, thereby producing an increased coupling of EM radiation in the THz spectral range to said material. The molecules can be bio-molecules, explosive materials, or species of organisms. The slotted member can be a semiconductor film, a metallic film, in particular InSb, or layers thereof. THz detectors sense near field THz radiation that has been transmitted through said slots and the test material.

Abstract: Systems and methods for microwave tomography are described. According to various embodiments, signal strength values or other similar quality indications may be analyzed as they are received with packet data over a wireless network. The analysis may be used to determine the presence of a physical object substantially between communicating nodes in the wireless network. An output may be generated based on analyzed data. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
Abstract: Impedance matching between the RF probe and the spectrometer is a standard requirement for NMR probes. Both lumped element and branched transmission line methods are in wide use. Here we propose to use a segmented transmission line structure. It relies upon reflections between transmission lines of different impedances that are serially connected to match the impedance of a coil or resonator to the characteristic impedance of the NMR spectrometer. In an embodiment, two quarter-wave length dielectric slugs are placed within a coaxial transmission line. Adjustment of the positions of the slugs allows the variable tuning and matching needed for NMR probes, eliminating the need for variable capacitors and inductors.

Abstract: This invention relates to altered forms of members of the RNase A superfamily. An RNase A can be modified to be cytotoxic by altering its amino acid sequence so that it is not bound easily by the ribonuclease inhibitor while still retaining catalytic properties. While earlier work had identified some modifications to RNase A that would result in cytotoxicity, the use of the FADE algorithm for molecular interaction analysis has led to several other locations that were candidates for modification. Some of those modifications did result in RNase A variants with increase cytotoxicity.

Abstract: Semi-supervised learning plays an important role in machine learning and data mining. The semi-supervised learning problem is approached by developing semiparametric regularization, which attempts to discover the marginal distribution of the data to learn the parametric function through exploiting the geometric distribution of the data. This learned parametric function can then be incorporated into the supervised learning on the available labeled data as the prior knowledge. A semi-supervised learning approach is provided which incorporates the unlabeled data into the supervised learning by a parametric function learned from the whole data including the labeled and unlabeled data. The parametric function reflects the geometric structure of the marginal distribution of the data. Furthermore, the proposed approach which naturally extends to the out-of-sample data is an inductive learning method in nature.

Abstract: A system for directly and instantaneously controlling the exciter of a generator. A voltage error calculator calculates a voltage error of output voltage of the generator which is regulated by an instruction voltage and a time constant. A switching signal generator generates switching signals in response to the voltage error. An exciter controller controls the exciter in response to the switching signals. Thus, the system can induce the maximum response characteristic of a power converter only by setting the time constant of a controller without a complicated design for determining gains of the controller. Further, the system can considerably inhibit overshoot from occurring in a transient response state.
