Abstract: Respective codewords of quantization codebooks corresponding to a number of data streams are selected based on channel information estimated by a received training symbol. A stream mode is selected among stream modes to determine a modulation method applied to each data stream. The data stream is detected by using the codeword corresponding to the quantization codebook of the data stream corresponding to the selected stream mode as a precode matrix, and the detected data stream is modulated. In this case, a receiving apparatus performs a feedback operation so that indexes of the selected stream mode and the codeword used as the precode matrix may be transmitted to the transmitting apparatus. The transmitting apparatus selects the number of transmitted data streams and the modulation method based on the transmitted index of feedback streams by the feedback operation.

In the above method, by applying an energy beam partially intercepted by a light shielding element, melt and re-crystallization occur with a light-shielded region as a starting point. The irradiation of the beam gives energy to the light-shielded region of the silicon thin film so that melt and re-crystallization occur with the light-shielded region as the starting point and so that a local temperature gradient in the light-shielded region is made to be 1200° C./?m or more. In the manufacturing method, a resolution of an optical system used to apply the energy beam is preferably 4 ?m or less.

Abstract: A front-end reagent ion source for a mass spectrometer is disclosed. Reagent vapor is supplied to a reagent ionization volume located within a chamber of the mass spectrometer and maintained at a low vacuum pressure. Reagent ions are formed by interaction of the reagent vapor molecules with an electrical discharge (e.g., a glow discharge) within the ionization volume, and pass into the chamber of the mass spectrometer. At least one ion optical element located along the analyte ion path transports the reagent ions to successive chambers of the mass spectrometer. The reagent ions may be combined with the analyte ions to perform ion-ion studies such as electron transfer dissociation (ETD).

Abstract: Provided are a method of detecting and isolating fault in sensors and a method of accommodating fault in sensors using the same. In the method of detecting and isolating fault in sensors, a one reduced-order parity vector is obtained by excluding the output of one sensor selected from n sensors, a two reduced-order parity vector is obtained by excluding output of two sensors selected from the n sensors, and when there are a plurality of parity vectors obtained at plural points of time, one reduced-order parity vectors are averaged to obtain an averaged one reduced-order parity vector and likewise, two reduced-order parity vectors are averaged to obtain an averaged two reduced-order parity vector. Therefore, a decrease in fault detection and isolation (FDI) performance can be hindered, and even when double faults occur, sensors to be excluded can be selected. Thus, a system including sensors has high reliability and high accuracy.

Abstract: Disclosed relates to a ferroelectric memory device that is manufactured easily, operates at low voltage and has excellent data preservation period, and a method of manufacturing the same. In the present invention, a ferroelectric layer 60 is formed on a part corresponding to a channel region 4 on the silicon substrate 1. The ferroelectric layer 60 made of an organic material such as PVDF, etc. shows polarization characteristics at low voltage below 1V, and such polarization characteristics continue over a specific time period, not changed as time goes by. Accordingly, it is possible to manufacture a ferroelectric memory device that operates at low voltage and is manufactured with a simplified structure in a simplified method.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for the prevention and/or treatment of muscle degeneration. In this method, a subject recognized as having muscle degeneration is treated with a composition effective to increase functional glycosylation of ?-dystroglycan in an affected tissue in the subject. Functional glycosylation is to be increased to an extent wherein the binding of ?-dystroglycan to its ligands in the affected tissue is rescued to levels substantially similar to those in an evenly matched tissue unaffected by degeneration. One effective means for increasing functional glycosylation of ?-dystroglycan in a subject includes increasing glycosyltransferase activity, such as LARGE or LARGE2 activity, in the muscle of the subject. Therapeutic glycosylated peptide compositions are also provided.
Abstract: A cost-effective, ultra-compact, hybrid power module packaging system and method for making allows device operation in conventional and high temperature ranges over 300° C. Double metal leadframes are directly bonded to the front- and backside of semiconductor chips, and injection-molded high temperature polymer materials encapsulate the module. The invention eliminates the use of unreliable metal wirebonds and solders joints, and expensive aluminum nitride ceramic substrates commonly used in conventional and high temperature hybrid power modules. Advantages of the new power modules include high current carrying capability, low package parasitic impedance, low thermo-mechanical stress under high temperature cycling, low package thermal resistance (double-side cooling), modularity for easy system-level integration, and low-cost manufacturing of devices compatible with current electronic packaging industry. A first embodiment uses molybdenum leadframes for operation in temperatures over 300° C.

Abstract: A method and product made by using a polymeric ceramic precursor to synthesize dense, crack-free bulk ceramics in a technique using a sacrificial mold provides a ceramic structure for many technical, medical and industrial applications. The novel process uses an open cell material as a sacrificial mold to shape a ceramic precursor during curing. The cured ceramic green body can be machined and shaped to form the desired ceramic structure prior to final pyrolysis. The open cell material forms gas release paths to release large amount of gases generated during the pyrolysis of the cured ceramic precursor. After pyrolysis, an intact, dense, crack-free ceramic structure with high purity, strength and durability is obtained. Uses of the present invention include, but are not limited to, bulk ceramic parts, ceramic crucibles, a replacement material in some applications involving glass, silicon carbides, silicon nitrides, hafnium carbide and the like.

Abstract: The subject invention provides at least one nucleic acid sequence encoding an aldouronate-utilization regulon isolated from Paenibacillus sp. strain JDR-2, a bacterium which efficiently utilizes xylan and metabolizes aldouronates (methylglucuronoxylosaccharides). The subject invention also provides a means for providing a coordinately regulated process in which xylan depolymerization and product assimilation are coupled in Paenibacillus sp. strain JDR-2 to provide a favorable system for the conversion of lignocellulosic biomass to biobased products. Additionally, the nucleic acid sequences encoding the aldouronate-utilization regulon can be used to transform other bacteria to form organisms capable of producing a desired product (e.g., ethanol, 1-butanol, acetoin, 2,3-butanediol, 1,3-propanediol, succinate, lactate, acetate, malate or alanine) from lignocellulosic biomass.
