Abstract: A tissue stimulation method which uses wave-guiding principles to construct a focused point of stimulation at any location within a region of electrically excitable living tissue. The excitation is formed through the constructive interference of different frequency wave energies, traveling at frequency-dependent velocities, which coalesce at the stimulation point. Further energy is brought to the stimulation point through reflection(s) at the boundaries of the wave-guiding structure. The resulting excitation signal depends upon several factors, including pulse envelope and duration, allowable frequency range, and stimulation time.

Abstract: A method of preplanning for guided medical procedures includes obtaining a first 3D diagnostic dataset for a region of interest of a subject. This first dataset can be a non-stereotactic dataset and provide sufficient contrast to identify target tissue in the region of interest. A treatment preplan is developed to treat the target tissue using the first dataset exclusive of stereotactic data. The treatment preplan includes placement locations for a plurality of initial radiation beams and their respective dose intensities. A second, stereotactic 3D dataset can be obtained for the region of interest. A registered dataset can then be created by registering the first dataset to the second dataset. The treatment preplan can be modified using data associated with the registering step to generate a stereotactic treatment plan including a plurality of radiation treatment beams with respective placement positions based on the registered dataset to treat the target tissue.

Abstract: There are provided an ohmic electrode, which includes a contact layer made of an Al alloy and formed on a nitride-based semiconductor layer functioning as a light emitting layer, a reflective layer made of Ag metal, formed on the contact layer and having some particles in-diffused to the semiconductor layer, and a protective layer formed on the reflective layer to restrain out-diffusion of the reflective layer; a method of forming the ohmic electrode; and a semiconductor light emitting element having the ohmic electrode. The present invention has strong adhesive strength and low contact resistance since the reflective layer and the light emitting layer directly form an ohmic contact due to the interface reaction during heat treatment, and the present invention has high light reflectance and excellent thermal stability since the contact layer and the protective layer restrain out-diffusion of the reflective layer during heat treatment.
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method of sensor network localization through reconstruction of a radiation pattern with a characteristic value of an antenna depending on orientation thereof. The method can minimize errors using an antenna characteristic value and a signal strength depending on the orientation. In addition, the method can minimize errors using an artificial neural network to characterize a distorted radiation pattern of an antenna and using it for the localization of a triangulation method. Furthermore, the method can increases the localization rate even in a passive localization method by characterizing an asymmetric antenna radiation pattern and constructing the antenna characteristic through an artificial neural network.

Abstract: Provided is an anticancer agent which comprises an anti-PD-1 antibody or an anti-PD-L1 antibody as an active ingredient, functioning to reverse the unresponsiveness of iNKT cells in which anergy has been induced by administration with an iNKT cell ligand. The anti-PD-1 or anti-PD-L1 antibody blocks the PD-1/PD-L1-mediated signaling pathway not only to prevent the iNKT cell ligand-induced iNKT cell anergy, but also to reverse the unresponsiveness of already anergic iNKT cells to produce cytokines. In addition, the anti-PD1 or anti-PD-L1 antibody ensures the potent anti-tumor activity of iNKT cells as demonstrated by a significant reduction in the number of metastatic nodules in B16F10 melanoma metastasis models in vivo. Collectively, the anticancer agent can be very useful in the treatment of cancer, particularly metastatic cancer.

Abstract: A compound derived from an extract of vegetative tissue of plants of the Genus Shortia demonstrates antitcarcinogenic potential by inhibiting the growth and development formation of tumors in living tissue in response to an organism known to cause the initiation of tumors in living tissue and by reducing mutation rates in living tissues exposed to a known mutagen.
Abstract: A RF transmit coil decoupling circuit in a parallel drive configuration comprises a power amplifier and an output matching network to shim the B1 field in response to inhomogeneities therein. The separate coil segments in a transmit array are effectively decoupled from each other despite inherent mutual inductance between coil segments by the decoupling circuit. The output matching network forms a high impedance block seen by the coil elements, while it provides a load line impedance at the output of the power amplifier. The transmission line transformer in the output matching network suppresses higher order harmonics for clearer RF wave forms. It also dampen the Q factor of the output matching network allowing stable operation with a series tuned coil element.

Abstract: A series of novel, melt- or mold-processable HA esters with varying aliphatic chain lengths are synthesized from silyl HA-quaternary (quat.) ammonium salt complex (preferably silyl HA-CTA, a silylated HA complex with cetyltrimethyl ammonium salt). Introduction of aliphatic acyl groups, preferably acid chlorides, to disrupt the strong HA intermolecular bonding, is done via acylation. Acylation takes place at the oxygen of the trimethylsilyloxy group —O—Si(CH3)3 in the silyl HA-CTA by removal of trimethylsilyl groups therefrom. Optionally, crosslinking may be performed during the shaping/molding of the HA esters into a structure/device, or thereafter, if at all. Native HA can then be regenerated/recovered by saponification hydrolysis, removing acyl groups, —CH3(CH2)10CO, and the cetyltrimethyl ammonium salt groups, -CTA, from HA ester. The structure/device of a preselected shape (e.g.

Abstract: Hydrogen production is provided via integrated closed-loop processing of landfill gas (LFG) and solid biomass feedstocks such as various agricultural wastes with minimal environmental impact. LFG is purified of harmful contaminants over a bed of activated charcoal (AC) and is catalytically reformed to synthesis gas, which is further processed to pure hydrogen via CO-shift and pressure-swing adsorption stages. Biomass is gasified in the presence of steam with production of a producer gas and AC. The producer gas is mixed with LFG and is processed to hydrogen as described above. High-surface area AC produced in the gasifier is used for the purification of both LFG and producer gas. An integrated processing of LFG and biomass offers a number of advantages such as a high overall energy efficiency, feedstock flexibility, substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and production of value-added product-biocarbon that can be used as a soil enhancer.
