  • Patent number: 7157078
Abstract: This invention relates to devices, kits, and methods for eliminating termite colonies. The kits, devices, and methods employ a termiticidal bait matrix containing a) a termiticide selected such that the termiticide causes death to about 50 to about 100% of termites within about 24 to about 84 days after the termites begin to ingest the termiticide or the bait matrix comprising the termiticide, b) a cellulose containing material, and c) water. The termiticidal bait matrix can be used in a bait station installed in the ground. The kits are suitable to be used by consumers in their homes.

  • Patent number: 7157150
Abstract: A method of bonding a stainless steel part to a titanium part by heating a component assembly comprised of the titanium part, the stainless steel part, and a compact titanium-nickel filler material placed between the two parts and heated at a temperature that is less than the melting point of either the stainless steel part or the titanium part. The compact filler material is made of particles, preferably spheres, of discrete layers of nickel and titanium metal that react with each other and with the stainless and titanium parts to form a strong assembly when thermally processed. The component assembly is held in intimate contact at temperature in a non-reactive atmosphere for a sufficient time to develop a hermetic and strong bond between the stainless steel part and the titanium part.

  • Patent number: 7157699
Abstract: A multiplexed mass spectrometer system includes an array of mass analyzers and a data acquisition system. Each mass analyzer is associated with one or more data channels, and the data acquisition system selectively reduces the number of data channels through combinations of particular channels to define data acquisition modes for the molecular characterization of the samples. The selective reduction in channels can be achieved, for example by software manipulation of the acquired data or by combining the detected signals.

  • Patent number: 7157227
Abstract: Microarray technology allows the multiple parallel processing of information generated from matrices of huge numbers of loci on a solid substrate, which is useful in the gathering of gene signatures defining specific biological states. An approach has been developed to facilitate this process wherein genes of the same regulatory modality are selected. The transcriptional regulation of these genes is related to the same control element. Primers specific for the regulatory genes are selected, based on minimum cross-reactivity with other genes, using known gene data banks. PCR products of selected regions of known genes either binding to this sequence or whose expression is dependent on this binding, as well as genes interacting with the regulatable genes and control genes, referred to as “amplicons” or “gene cDNA fragments” of between about 450 and 1000 nucleotide bases in length, are obtained from a total RNA pool.

  • Patent number: 7156812
Abstract: An underfluid ultrasound imaging catheter system includes a catheter having a distal end inserted into an underfluid structure, an ultrasonic transducer array mounted proximate the distal end of the catheter wherein the array has a row of individual transducer crystals, a lens mounted on the array for defocusing ultrasound beams in a direction perpendicular to an axis of the array so as to provide a volumetric field of view within which the underfluid features are imaged. Alternatively, the single row of transducer crystals is replaced by multiple rows of transducer crystals so as to provide a volumetric field of view. This imaging catheter system helps an operator see 3-dimensional images of an underfluid environment, such as the 3-dimensional images of fluid-filled cavities of heart, blood vessel, urinary bladder, etc. Features in such wide volumetric field of view can be imaged, measured, or intervened by an underfluid therapeutic device with an aid of the real-time image.

  • Patent number: 7157053
Abstract: A high-efficiency, high-sensitivity absorbance detection system in a lab-on-a-chip is provided. The absorbance detection system includes detection cells having an optical pathlength ten times and/or much longer than the width of a separation channel to improve detection sensitivity, lens structures for collimating light in the detection cells, and slit structures for preventing scattered light from entering detectors. The detection cells, the lens structures, and the slit structures of the absorbance detection system are fabricated and integrated in a lab-on-a-chip. The absorbance detection system exhibits excellent absorption efficiency, detection limit, and linearity, compared to existing absorbance detection systems, and can be applied for the detection of a variety of samples. The absorbance detection system does not need labeling of the samples which saves time and costs. The absorbance detection system can be used effectively in detecting trace compounds with a high sensitivity.

  • Patent number: 7157167
Abstract: A novel process and apparatus are disclosed for sustainable CO2-free production of hydrogen and carbon by thermocatalytic decomposition (dissociation, pyrolysis, cracking) of hydrocarbon fuels over carbon-based catalysts in the absence of air and/or water. The apparatus and thermocatalytic process improve the activity and stability of carbon catalysts during the thermocatalytic process and produce both high purity hydrogen (at least, 99.0 volume %) and carbon, from any hydrocarbon fuel, including sulfurous fuels. In a preferred embodiment, production of hydrogen and carbon is achieved by both internal and external activation of carbon catalysts. Internal activation of carbon catalyst is accomplished by recycling of hydrogen-depleted gas containing unsaturated and aromatic hydrocarbons back to the reactor. External activation of the catalyst can be achieved via surface gasification with hot combustion gases during catalyst heating.

  • Patent number: 7157934
Abstract: High-performance, highly pipelined asynchronous FPGAs employ a very fine-grain pipelined logic block and routing interconnect architecture. These FPGAs, which do not use a clock to sequence computations, automatically “self-pipeline” their logic without the designer needing to be explicitly aware of all pipelining details. The FPGAs include arrays of logic blocks or cells that include function units, conditional units and other elements, each of which is constructed using basic asynchronous pipeline stages, such as a weak condition half buffer and a precharge half buffer.

  • Publication number: 20060292577
Abstract: All neoplastic cells express a unique cell-surface ubiquinone (NADH) oxidase with protein disulfide-thiol isomerase with characteristic sensitivity to inhibition by capsaicin, sulfonylureas, adriamycin and certain other compounds. This neoplasia-specific protein is the translational expression production of a particular splice pattern: exon 4 is not translated to become part of the neoplasia-specific protein displayed on the surfaces of the cancer cells. Oligonucleotides which span the splice junctions of the cancer-specific mRNA can be used in RT-PCR assays, for example, having nucleotide sequences as given in SEQ ID NO:4 and in SEQ ID NO:5, which, when positive, are useful in the detection of neoplastic cells in the sample from which the mRNA was derived. Alternatively, transcriptase or real time polymerase chain reaction assays can produce amplification products of cancer-specific sizes.
