  • Patent number: 10542997
Abstract: Devices and methods for removing tissue, which causes minimal pain or scarring. A hemostatic clamp having two arms with juxtaposeablefaces, can compress tissue between the faces of the arms so as to fuse a portion of the tissue therebetween. A locking mechanism maintains pressure on the arms until the skin is fused to create a skin tab. The unwanted tissue, such as a polydactyl digit, skin tag, or the like, can be excised with the clamp in position. When the locking mechanism is disengaged and the clamp is removed, the fused skin tab inhibits bleeding and the removal of the digit encourages any remaining underlying nerves to withdraw from the area of amputation. A related device can be used as a castration clamp to externally compress testicular-related tissues, such as ductiles, nerves, and blood vessels leading to the testicles, to castrate an animal. The castration clamp provides a quick, bloodless technique that eliminates the need for open wounds, which are subject to infection.

  • Patent number: 10547015
Abstract: A sensor including a layer of amorphous selenium (a-Se) and at least one charge blocking layer is formed by depositing the charge blocking layer over a substrate prior to depositing the amorphous selenium, enabling the charge blocking layer to be formed at elevated temperatures. Such a process is not limited by the crystallization temperature of a-Se, resulting in the formation of an efficient charge blocking layer, which enables improved signal amplification of the resulting device. The sensor can be fabricated by forming first and second amorphous selenium layers over separate substrates, and then fusing the a-Se layers at a relatively low temperature.

  • Patent number: 10542961
Abstract: Cardiac Output (CO) has traditionally been difficult, dangerous, and expensive to obtain. Surrogate measures such as pulse rate and blood pressure have therefore been used to permit an estimate of CO. MEMS technology, evolutionary computation, and time-frequency signal analysis techniques provide a technology to non-invasively estimate CO, based on precordial (chest wall) motions. The technology detects a ventricular contraction time point, and stroke volume, from chest wall motion measurements. As CO is the product of heart rate and stroke volume, these algorithms permit continuous, beat to beat CO assessment. Nontraditional Wavelet analysis can be used to extract features from chest acceleration. A learning tool is preferable to define the packets which best correlate to contraction time and stroke volume.
