Abstract: In one aspect, compositions are described herein. In some embodiments, a composition described herein comprises the reaction product of (i) an alkoxylated or alkenoxylated citric acid, citrate, or ester of citric acid, and optionally a non-alkoxylated and non-alkenoxylated citric acid, citrate, or ester of citric acid, with (ii) a polyol. Additionally, in some cases, a composition described herein comprises the reaction product of (i) and (ii) above and (iii) one or more additional monomers. In some cases, the composition is cross-linked by the use of one or more oxidants such as sodium periodate (NaIO4) and/or silver nitrate (AgNO3), which can be reduced into a reduced oxidant that provides short-term antimicrobial activity. Such a composition can have both short-term and long-term antibiotic and antifungal activity.
Abstract: A sensor for hydrocarbons uses a waveguide with a first cladding layer, a second cladding layer with a measurement region with hydrophobic measurement material, and a core between the first and second cladding layers. Light is coupled into the waveguide. The measurement material is exposed to the hydrocarbon allowing the hydrocarbon to diffuse into it and change refractive index of the material, which changes intensity of light evanescently coupled through the first cladding layer. Light coupled through the first cladding layer is measured to determine exposure of the sensor to the hydrocarbons.

Abstract: This invention relates to biotechnology, more particularly, to water-soluble polymeric delivery systems for the imaging, evaluation and/or treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory diseases. Using modern MR imaging techniques, the specific accumulation of macromolecules in arthritic joints in adjuvant-induced arthritis in rats is demonstrated. The strong correlation between the uptake and retention of the MR contrast agent labeled polymer with histopathological features of inflammation and local tissue damage demonstrates the practical applications of the macromolecular delivery system of the invention.

Abstract: B/N Lewis pairs have been discovered to catalyze rapid epimerization of meso-lactide (LA) or LA diastereomers quantitatively into rac-LA. The obtained rac-LA can be kinetically polymerized into poly(L-lactide) and optically resolved D-LA, with a high stereoselectivity factor kL/kD of 53 and an ee value of 91% at 50.6% monomer conversion, by a bifunctional chiral catalyst. The epimerization and enantioselective polymerization can be coupled into a one-pot process for transforming meso-LA directly into poly(L-lactide) and D-LA.

Abstract: Method, system and computer program product for applying existing anti-tampering and obfuscation techniques to virtual machine technology and offers several distinct advantages. The anti-tampering and obfuscation transforms can be applied continuously to prevent adversaries from gaining information about the program through emulation or dynamic analysis. In addition, the encryption can be used to prevent hackers from gaining information using static attacks. The use of a virtual machine also allows for low overhead execution of the obfuscated binaries as well as finer adjustment of the amount of overhead that can be tolerated. In addition, more protection can be applied to specific portions of the application that can tolerate slowdown. The in-corporation of a virtual machine also makes it easy to extend the technology to integrate new developments and resistance mechanisms, leading to less development time, increased savings, and quicker deployment.
