  • Patent number: 7315289
Abstract: The present invention consists of an antenna comprising at least two radiating structures, said radiating structures taking the form of two arms, said arms being made of or limited by a conductor, superconductor or semiconductor material, said two arms being coupled to each other through a region on first and second superconducting arms such that the combined structure of the coupled two-arms forms a small antenna with a broadband behavior, a multiband behavior or a combination of both effects. According to the present invention, the coupling between the two radiating arms is obtained by means of the shape and spatial arrangement of said two arms, in which at least one portion on each arm is placed in close proximity to each other (for instance, at a distance smaller than a tenth of the longest free-space operating wavelength) to allow electromagnetic fields in one arm being transferred to the other through said specific close proximity regions.

  • Patent number: 7312762
Abstract: A novel loaded antenna is defined in the present invention. The radiating element of the loaded antenna consists of two different parts: a conducting surface and a loading structure. By means of this configuration, the antenna provides a small and multiband performance, and hence it features a similar behaviour through different frequency bands.

  • Patent number: 7310065
Abstract: An undersampled microstrip array using multilevel and space-filling shaped patch elements based on a fractal geometry achieves within the same electrical area, the same directivity than can be obtained using conventional elements as square or circular-shaped patches. However, the number of elements for the fractal-based array is less, reducing the complexity of the feeding network and overall array. Mutual coupling can be reduced avoiding radiation pattern distortions. Higher gain than that obtained using classical patch elements within the same electrical can be achieved due to the less complexity in the feeding network.

  • Publication number: 20070279289
Abstract: Antennae in which the corresponding radiative element contains at least one multilevel structure formed by a set of similar geometric elements (polygons or polyhedrons) electromagnetically coupled and grouped such that in the structure of the antenna can be identified each of the basic component elements. The design is such that it provides two important advantages: the antenna may operate simultaneously in several frequencies, and/or its size can be substantially reduced. Thus, a multiband radioelectric behaviour is achieved, that is, a similar behavior for different frequency bands.

  • Patent number: 7250918
Abstract: Antenna arrays which can work simultaneously in various frequency bands thanks to the physical disposition of the elements which constitute them, and also the multiband behaviour of some elements situated strategically in the array. The configuration of the array is described based on the juxtaposition or interleaving of various conventional mono-band arrays working in the different bands of interest. In those positions in which elements of different multiband arrays come together, a multiband antenna is employed which covers the different working frequency bands. The advantages with respect to the classic configuration of using one array for each frequency band are: saving in cost of the global radiating system and its installation (one array replaces several), and its size and visual and environmental impact are reduced in the case of base stations and repeater stations for communication systems.

  • Patent number: 7245196
Abstract: This invention relates to high frequency electromagnetic circuits, in particular to those made on planar or quasi-planar substrates, where the circuit is patterned on a metallic or superconducting film on top of a dielectric in any of the configurations known to those skilled in the art (for instance micro-strip, strip-line, co-planar, parallel plate or slot-line configurations). A part of the circuit such as the characteristic strip or slot of said configurations is shaped in a novel space-filling geometry which allows a significant size reduction of the circuital component. Miniature transmission lines, capacitors, inductors, resistors, filters and oscillators can be manufactured this way.

  • Patent number: 7215287
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a new family of antennas with a multiband behaviour, so that the frequency bands of the antenna can be tuned simultaneously to the main existing wireless services. In particular, the invention consists of shaping at least one of the gaps between some of the polygons of the multilevel structure in the form of a non-straight curve, shaped in such a way that the whole gap length is increased yet keeping its size and the same overall antenna size. Such a configuration allows an effective tuning of the frequency bands of the antenna, such that with the same overall antenna size, said antenna can be effectively tuned simultaneously to some specific services, such as for instance the five frequency bands that cover the services AMPS, GSM900, GSM1800, PCS1900, UMTS, Bluetooth™, IEEE802.11b, or HyperLAN.

  • Publication number: 20070046548
Abstract: Antennas for use in mobile communication devices are disclosed. The antennas disclosed can include a substrate with a base, a top, a front side and a back side; a first conductor can be located on the first side of the antenna substrate; and a second conductor can be located on the second side of the antenna substrate. The conductors can have single or multiple branches. If a conductor is a single branch it can, for example, be a spiral conductor or a conducting plate. If a conductor has multiple branches, each branch can be set up to receive a different frequency band. A conductor with multiple branches can have a linear branch and a space-filling or grid dimension branch. A conducting plate can act as a parasitic reflector plane to tune or partially tune the resonant frequency of another conductor. The first and second conductors can be electrically connected.
