Publication number: 20130030819Abstract: An encoder, based on a combination of two audio channels, obtains a first combination signal as a mid-signal and a residual signal derivable using a predicted side signal derived from the mid signal. The first combination signal and the prediction residual signal are encoded and written into a data stream together with the prediction information. A decoder generates decoded first and second channel signals using the prediction residual signal, the first combination signal and the prediction information. A real-to-imaginary transform may be applied for estimating the imaginary part of the spectrum of the first combination signal. For calculating the prediction signal used in the derivation of the prediction residual signal, the real-valued first combination signal is multiplied by a real portion of the complex prediction information and the estimated imaginary part of the first combination signal is multiplied by an imaginary portion of the complex prediction information.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 5, 2012Publication date: January 31, 2013Applicants: DOLBY INTERNATIONAL AB, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur foerderung der angewandten Forschung e.V.Inventors: Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur foerderung der angew, DOLBY INTERNATIONAL AB

Patent number: 8363960Abstract: Exemplary embodiments are described in which is performed not only a shot detection (continuous recording with a camera) and an association of several key-frames to the shots, it then being possible for a subsequent scene recognition to be based on the grouping of shots into scenes. Rather, it is observed that a scene only relates to one event in a setting. Since both can change within a shot, not every scene boundary is at the same time also a shot boundary. In addition, not every shot is short enough, so that a reliable retrieval of different picture contents is not guaranteed. Therefore, exemplary embodiments are shown which are capable of defining sub-shots so that in principle, scene and shot boundaries are also sub-shot boundaries at the same time. Sub-shots furthermore include only video pictures with a small change in picture content.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 2008Date of Patent: January 29, 2013Assignee: Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Foerderung der Angewandten Forschung E.V.Inventor: Christian Petersohn

Patent number: 8363768Abstract: In a method for estimating a deviation between a free-running transmitter clock and a reference clock, at a receiver stationary with respect to a transmitter, a transmitter signal generated by the transmitter on the basis of the transmitter clock is received. On the basis of the reference clock, a time of arrival of the transmitter signal and a beat phase of the transmitter signals carrier is determined. On the basis of a clock error model, the time of arrival and the beat phase, the deviation between the transmitter clock and the reference clock is estimated. The clock error model is derived by fitting a correlation function of a stochastic model to a measured auto correlation function of the transmitter clock. Deviations for a plurality of transmitters may be estimated and the transmitters may be virtually synchronized based on the estimations.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2010Date of Patent: January 29, 2013Assignees: Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Foerderung der Angewandten Forschung E.V., Friedrich-Alexander-Universitaet-Erlangen-NuernbergInventors: Lucila Patino-Studencka, Andreas Eidloth, Joern Thielecke

Patent number: 8355509Abstract: The following coding scenario is addressed: A number of audio source signals need to be transmitted or stored for the purpose of mixing wave field synthesis, multi-channel surround, or stereo signals after decoding the source signals. The proposed technique offers significant coding gain when jointly coding the source signals, compared to separately coding them, even when no redundancy is present between the source signals. This is possible by considering statistical properties of the source signals, the properties of mixing techniques, and spatial hearing. The sum of the source signals is transmitted plus the statistical properties of the source signals which mostly determine the perceptually important spatial cues of the final mixed audio channels. Source signals are recovered at the receiver such that their statistical properties approximate the corresponding properties of the original source signals. Subjective evaluations indicate that high audio quality is achieved by the proposed scheme.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 2007Date of Patent: January 15, 2013Assignee: Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Foerderung der Angewandten Forschung e.V.Inventor: Christof Faller

Publication number: 20130010859Abstract: A more accurate model parameter estimation is achieved by using a Kalman filter for discretely estimating the model parameters between the consecutive frames of the frame sequence and performing the correction of the time-discrete Kalman filter twice per frame, firstly using a measurement value which depends on a complexity measure of the current frame to achieve a primarily corrected state of the time-discrete Kalman filter, and secondly using a measurement value depending on an actual coding rate or distortion of the video encoder in encoding the current frame using a predetermined quantization which may have been determined by an estimation of the actual rate- or distortion-quantization function according to the primarily corrected state. A rate-quantization model function relates the quantization of the video encoder to the coding rate of the video encoder and is piecewise defined to exhibit quadratic and exponential functions in finer and coarser quantization intervals, respectively.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 5, 2012Publication date: January 10, 2013Applicant: Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Foerderung der angewandten Forschung e.VInventors: Manuel SCHWAAB, Herbert THOMA
