    Abstract: The invention relates to a device for detecting water flow through or over at least one layer of biological cells, the device containing a first and a second container, the second container being situated at least in part within the first container such that two separate compartments are formed. The base of the second container consists, at least in regions, of a planar, water-permeable substrate for growing biological cells, and the base of the first container has an electrode pair, the electrodes of which each have an electrical connection which leads into a space outside the first container. By means of the device according to the invention, water flow over at least one layer of biological cells can be detected easily, quickly, robustly, and reproducibly, with a high temporal resolution. The invention also relates to a method for detecting water flow over at least one layer of biological cells.

The ignition characteristics of the fuel are adjusted via: the molar ratio of oxygen included in the oxidising agent to the oxygen required for the complete oxidation of the fuel provided; and/or via the pressure in the unit; and/or the dwell time; and/or the temperature. Exhaust emissions, in particular NOx and soot emissions, can be lowered.

    Abstract: Strain sensors are attached to a workpiece, and resistance values of the strain sensors are measured with time while cutting the workpiece with a milling cutting machine. A power spectrum in a frequency domain is obtained by Fourier-transforming the resistance values measured with time. A power peak is found in the power spectrum to be outputted as a magnitude of vibration occurring during machining the workpiece. By attaching a strain sensor to a stamper of a plastic working machine, a resistance value of the strain sensor is measured while pressing a workpiece on a die with the stamper. A magnitude of the strain corresponding to the measured resistance value is used to obtain a corresponding plastic working force. By attaching the strain sensor directly to the workpiece, it is possible to monitor the state of the plastic working and/or cutting process of the workpiece with high precision at low cost.
