  • Patent number: 6882393
Abstract: A pair of substrates is disposed in parallel at a gap distance therebetween. Liquid crystal material containing liquid crystal molecules having negative dielectric anisotropy is filled in between the substrates. The liquid crystal molecules are homeotropically aligned. On the opposing surface of one of the substrates, pixel electrodes are disposed in a matrix form and data bus lines and gate bus lines are disposed. The gate bus line passes an inner area of each pixel electrode. Switching elements are formed on the opposing surface of the substrate. Each switching element is controlled by the gate bus line at another row. Protrusions are formed on the opposing surface of one of the substrates. The protrusions divide an area of the pixel electrode into a plurality of areas and each is bent on the gate bus line. A domain border regulating unit is formed on the opposing surface of the other of the substrates. The protrusions and domain border regulating unit define the borders of each domain.

  • Publication number: 20050078235
Abstract: It is an object of the invention to provide a display and a method for repairing defects of the same in which defects such as inter-layer short-circuits and short-circuits in a single that have occurred at steps for manufacturing the display can be easily repaired to provide a good product with a probability higher than that in the related art. Laser irradiation is carried out as a first cycle of laser irradiation by forming a slit S1 in a region where a drain bus line 220 completely covers a gate bus line 218 to form a cut portion longer than the width of the gate bus line 218 adjacent to an inter-layer short-circuit 290 such that it splits an intersecting portion of the drain bus line 220 into two parts as shown in FIG. 5b. Next, as shown in FIG. 5c, slits S2 and S3 are respectively used for second and third cycles of laser irradiation to cut the drain bus line 220 at both ends of the cut portion (indicated by S1), thereby isolating the inter-layer short-circuit 290 of the drain bus line 220.

  • Patent number: 6872978
Abstract: In the fabrication of a CMOS-TFT, non-selectively doping (for both of p- and n-type TFTs) and selectively doping (only for the n-type TFT) with p-type impurities (B: boron) are successively performed at very low concentrations to control the threshold voltages (Vthp and Vthn). More specifically, the Id-Vg characteristics of the p- and n-type TFTs are initially negatively shifted. In this state, non-selectively doping is performed positively to shift the p- and n-type TFTs first to adjust the Vthp to a specified value. Selectively doping is then performed positively to shift only the n-type TFT to adjust the Vthn to a specified value. The threshold voltages of the p- and n-type TFTs constructing the CMOS-TFT can be independently and efficiently (with minimum photolithography) controlled with high accuracy.

  • Publication number: 20050042368
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display utilizing the dispense-injection method, and it is an object of the invention to provide a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display which allows an optimum quantity of liquid crystals to be dispensed on each substrate. At a dispense-injection step, in the case of a two-shot process for fabricating two liquid crystal display panels from a single glass substrate 80, the heights of support posts on two CF substrates 82 (let us call them surfaces A and B) having columnar spacers formed thereon are measured at a plurality of points (e.g., five locations indicated by numerals 1 through 5) on each of the surfaces A and B using a laser displacement gauge and an average value of the height is obtained. The support post height of the columnar spacers is thus measured in advance to control the quantity of dispensed liquid crystals based on the measured value.
