    Abstract: A communication system includes multiple network interfaces interconnected using synchronous transport resources, such as a SONET ring. These interfaces couple to various communications networks and provide access for these networks to the synchronous transport resources. In response to relatively simple commands, these interfaces may couple attached asynchronous networks to the synchronous transport resources. With appropriate messages communicated to two of these interfaces, this system provides for the provisioning of synchronous transport resources between two asynchronous networks to support network-to-network communications.

    Abstract: An Asynchronous Transfer Mode switch and method which facilitate priority arbitration of point-to-point and point-to-multipoint transmission are disclosed. To execute point-to-multipoint operation a bandwidth arbiter maintains a first list of connections and bit vectors indicating designated destination ports. The list maintained by the bandwidth arbiter is then compared to an unassigned output port bit vector to determine matches therebetween at which point-to-multipoint transmission may be made by utilizing instantaneously unused bandwidth within the switch. To execute point-to-point operation each input port maintains a list of connections associated with each output port, and those lists are used in conjunction with output port request information per input port in the bandwidth arbiter to match requests to the unassigned output port bit vector. The bandwidth arbiter may also assign priority to connections in the list.

These features include an overhang extension from the top side wall of the three-sided removable cover extending to partially cover the front opening and in particular to cover the seam created between the enclosure door and the removable cover, and a gutter surrounding the front opening to divert water therefrom. In addition, the three-sided removable cover and the wall mounting bracket include elements to provide for the proper alignment and orientation thereof when being mated together.

The wrap determination is made prior to the comparison between the TTA and TTAT values which is made in order to determine whether the user is complying with his or her contracted parameters. In addition, the upgrade is performed only if an interface on the route to the called party on which the call setup request is to be forwarded supports flow-controlled connections. When the call is to be upgraded, the switch replaces the service type indicator in the setup message with a value indicating a flow-controlled service type, and forwards the setup message toward the called subscriber.

    Abstract: A network device operates to control the clumping of cells on a connection using a rate-based flow-control protocol. In each of successive intervals, a number N is calculated representing the maximum number of cells permitted to be transmitted consecutively. N is calculated as the quotient from dividing a cell delay variation tolerance (CDVT) by the difference between the reciprocal of an allowed cell rate (ACR) and the reciprocal of a link cell rate (LCR). If the calculated quotient is greater than a number NRM for the connection indicating the maximum number of data cells allowed between forward flow-control cells, then N is set equal to NRM. A value C is calculated as the largest integer factor of NRM that is no greater than N, and the interval is then divided into NRM/C sub-intervals. No more than C cells are allowed to be transmitted on the connection in each of the sub-intervals.
