Patent number: 7574620Abstract: A method is established for operating an arrangement of a plurality of computers that are configured to execute software units. Continuous monitoring of the plurality of computers and intervening with any failed computers is performed via a monitoring computer. The software units are assigned a weighting in accordance with their importance, and the method steps are invoked in the event of a computer failing. At the monitoring time, information regarding the failure of all of the failed computers and software units affected is thereby collected. The software units, that are affected by the failure or failures, are transferred to other computers. The transfer is determined via the weighting of the software units.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2006Date of Patent: August 11, 2009Assignee: Fujitsu Siemens Computers GmbHInventor: Klaus Hartung

Patent number: 7411914Abstract: A data ring has two or more disconnectable nodes and a monitoring device for monitoring and driving the nodes. Appliances that communicate with one another can be connected to the nodes. The data ring is distinguished by an additional node that can be connected by the monitoring device. The additional node allows a fault state to be produced deliberately in the other nodes. The deliberate production of a defined fault state in the data ring and the defined propagation of this defined fault state in concatenated data rings results in states being produced in all of the nodes which correctly initiate fault handling routines in the appliances which are connected to the nodes. The fault handling routines are provided as standard and provide the appliances at the node with knowledge of the failure of the faulty node or of the addition of a new appliance at a node.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2003Date of Patent: August 12, 2008Assignee: Fujitsu Siemens Computers GmbHInventors: Robert Depta, Wolfgang Winderl, Reinhold Gruber, Robert Graf, Herbert Schur

Patent number: 7406632Abstract: A high-performance, high-reliable backplane bus has a simple configuration and operation. An error reporting network (ERN) provides an inexpensive approach to collecting the error state of a whole system in a uniform and consistent way. The uniformity allows for simpler interface software and for standardized hardware handling of classes of errors. In a preferred embodiment, serial error registers are used, minimizing implementation cost and making the software interface to the serial registers much easier. Serial error information is transferred over a separate data path from the main parallel bus, decreasing the chance of the original error corrupting the error information. Each CPU is provided with a local copy of the entire body of error information. The redundancy minimizes the impact of a possible CPU failure and allows the CPUs to coordinate error recovery.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 2003Date of Patent: July 29, 2008Assignee: Fujitsu Siemens Computers, LLCInventors: Charles Sealey, John Lynch, Mark Myers, Jason Lewis, Stacey Lloyd, Paul Kayfes

Patent number: 7158375Abstract: Due to the limited capacity of secondary batteries, the operating period of notebooks is short. A fuel cell (22) in connection with a hydride storage unit allows for significantly longer periods of operation. The arrangement of the fuel cell (22) within a display unit (2) allows for the flexible use of the traditionally two module installation bays (11, 12) of the main unit (1) of a portable computer system. Even if one of the module installation bays is occupied by one of the insertable hydride storage tanks in the form of a module, another module installation bay (12) is available to the user for insertion of drives, such as CD-ROM. The flat arrangement of the fuel cell (22) in the display unit (2) folded open into a vertical position ensures a high efficiency of the fuel cell (22).Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2001Date of Patent: January 2, 2007Assignee: Fujitsu Siemens Computers GmbHInventor: Ingbert Kornmayer
