  • Patent number: 6310717
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an optical amplifier reduced in gain deviation. The optical amplifier includes a nonsilica fiber doped with a rare earth, and a fiber holder in which the nonsilica fiber is inserted and fixed. The fiber holder is optically arranged so that signal light to be amplified propagates in the nonsilica fiber. The nonsilica fiber is pumped so that the nonsilica fiber provides a gain band including the wavelength of the signal light. Opposite ends of the fiber holder are hermetically sealed to thereby easily cut off the nonsilica fiber from the outside air, so that the nonsilica fiber is stabilized physically or chemically. A fluoride glass fiber is suitable for the nonsilica fiber to reduce the gain deviation in a 1.55 &mgr;m band.

  • Patent number: 6310925
Abstract: According to the present invention, in accordance with the first to fourth quadrants on the phase plane for signal points, a phase angle detector converts an I channel signal or a Q channel signal obtained by a demodulator, by using individually set operating expressions, so as to correlate the angle (phase angle) for a signal point on the plane phase with a predetermined one-dimensional coordinate. More specifically, the phase angle that extends from a border point in an arbitrary quadrant on the phase plane to a border position shifted 360° is allocated for a specific one-dimensional coordinate. The coordinate value on the one-dimensional coordinate is calculated by using the operating expression which is set in accordance with the first to the fourth quadrant of the signal point which is detected using the I channel signal and the Q channel signal.

  • Publication number: 20010034232
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of registering a location in a mobile communication system in which the call signal traffic can be further reduced without increasing the location registration signal traffic. When a base station ID defined by notification information changes, or when a predetermined period of time has passed, the base station ID is stored in the history of the mobile device. From the latest history of the mobile device, one or a plurality of base stations near which the mobile device has a possibility of passing by next are statistically predicted. The predicted base stations are then stored as a personal location registration area. Based on the history, the registered personal location registration area is extracted so as to perform a location registration operation. Accordingly, the location registration operation can be performed with the optimum personal location registration area for the movement pattern of each mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20010032976
Abstract: In a semiconductor light-emitting device including an MQW diffraction grating structure mainly used in a gain-coupled DFB laser, the ratio of the gain coupling coefficient to the index coupling coefficient is increased by making each well layer in MQW-A thicker than that in MQW-B. Each well layer and each barrier layer in the MQW structure are made of different compositions of GaInAsP. This implements a semiconductor light-emitting device with high wavelength stability, which does not induce any mode hop even during modulation with high output power or even when external optical feedback is present.

  • Publication number: 20010033452
Abstract: A head suspension supporting a head at the tip end is allowed to swing at the tip end of a carriage in a recording disk drive. A microactuator is interposed between the head suspension and the carriage. A resistor is connected to the microactuator in serial. The microactuator is allowed to function as a capacitance. A combination of the microactuator and the resistor enables establishment of a so-called low pass filter. A high frequency noise involuntarily introduced in the driving voltage for the microactuator can be eliminated or removed from the driving voltage. Elimination of the high frequency noise enables a reliable prevention of the mechanical or physical resonance or vibration in the head suspension. A tracking action of the head related to a target recording track can reliably be stabilized.
