Publication number: 20230047252Abstract: A method can be used for producing alkali metal alcoholates in counter flow by reactive rectification. The alkali metal is selected from sodium and potassium. In a first part of the method, the alcohol is converted in counter flow with the respective alkali metal hydroxide. In a second part of the method, the mixture of alcohol and water obtained is separated in a rectification column, and the alcoholic vapour arising is condensed, as a result of which the temperature thereof increases. The energy dissipated during cooling of the condensed vapour is then used in the first part of the method. This permits an energy-efficient production of the alkali metal alcoholates concerned.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 30, 2020Publication date: February 16, 2023Applicant: Evonik Functional Solutions GmbHInventors: Dirk Roettger, Sebastian Reimann, Manfred Neumann, Moritz Schröder, Philip Zitzewitz, Niklas Paul, Armin Matthias Rix

Patent number: 11574739Abstract: Systems and methods for formulating a personalized skincare product for a user. Data inputs reflecting dermal information of the user (e.g., hydration level measurements, oil level measurements, and a photograph of the user's skin reflecting a set of skin concerns) are collected by a computing device and used to determine a set of normalized scores. A skin health data set is generated based on the normalized scores and stored in memory. A skin health metric is determined based on the skin health data set and is stored in memory. The computing device determines, using a machine learning framework, one or more first skincare product formulations based on the user skin health data set. The formulation(s) can be used to manufacture one or more customized skincare products for the user and can be iteratively refined over time, e.g., by collecting additional data from the user over time.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 2019Date of Patent: February 7, 2023Assignee: Function, Inc.Inventors: Sid Salvi, Meghan Maupin, Nava Haghighi

Publication number: 20230028559Abstract: A process can be used for preparing sodium and potassium alkoxides. The process is characterized by two simultaneously implemented but spatially separated reactions of an alcohol ROH with NaOH, and ROH with KOH, to give sodium alkoxide and potassium alkoxide, respectively. The vapours formed in this case contain the alcohol used and water. The vapours are combined, and the resulting mixed vapour is fed to a common distillation with recovery of the alcohol.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 30, 2020Publication date: January 26, 2023Applicant: Evonik Functional Solutions GmbHInventors: Dirk Roettger, Sebastian Reimann, Manfred Neumann, Moritz Schröder, Philip Zitzewitz, Niklas Paul, Armin Matthias Rix

Publication number: 20220340509Abstract: A process produces sodium and/or potassium alkoxides in countercurrent by reactive rectification. Alcohol is reacted in countercurrent with the respective alkali metal hydroxide. The vapours containing alcohol and water are separated in at least two serially arranged rectification columns. The energy of the vapour obtained in the second rectification is utilized for operating the first rectification. This specific energy integration coupled with establishing a certain pressure difference in the two rectification stages makes it possible to cover a particularly large proportion of the energy required for the rectification through heating steam and minimizes the use of electricity.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 13, 2022Publication date: October 27, 2022Applicant: Evonik Functional Solutions GmbHInventors: Dirk Roettger, Sebastian Reimann, Niklas Paul, Armin Matthias Rix, Moritz Schröder, Philip Zitzewitz

Publication number: 20220267911Abstract: A process can be used for electrochemical preparation of an alkali metal alkoxide solution. The process is performed in an electrolysis cell having three chambers, where the middle chamber is separated from the cathode chamber by a solid-state electrolyte permeable to cations, for example NaSICON, and from the anode chamber by a diffusion barrier, for example a membrane selective for cations or anions. The process solves a problem where a concentration gradient forms in the middle chamber of the electrolysis cell during the electrolysis, which leads to locally lowered pH values and damage to the solid-state electrolyte used. This is prevented where a gas is introduced into the middle chamber during the electrolysis, which results in better mixing of the electrolyte solution in the middle chamber and prevents the formation of a concentration gradient.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 9, 2022Publication date: August 25, 2022Applicant: Evonik Functional Solutions GmbHInventors: Philip Heinrich REINSBERG, Michael Horn

Publication number: 20210301407Abstract: A process for electrochemical preparation of sodium alkoxide is performed in an electrolysis cell having three chambers, wherein the middle chamber is separated from the cathode chamber by a solid-state electrolyte permeable to sodium ions, and from the anode chamber by a diffusion barrier. The geometry of the electrolysis cell protects the solid-state electrolyte permeable to sodium ions from acidic destruction by the pH of the anolyte that falls in the course of electrolysis. The anolyte used in the process is a brine also comprising carbonates and/or hydrogencarbonates, as well as NaCl. The process solves the problem that CO2 from these carbonates and/or hydrogencarbonates forms in the electrolysis cell during the electrolysis of this brine obtained from pretreatment. The process prevents the formation of a gas bubble in the electrolysis cell that disrupts electrolysis and reduces the contamination of the chlorine with CO2.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 22, 2021Publication date: September 30, 2021Applicant: Evonik Functional Solutions GmbHInventors: Michael HORN, Felix Gärtner, Philip Heinrich Reinsberg, Rüdiger Teufert
