  • Patent number: 9460417
Abstract: A system and a method are provided for using dynamic object modeling and one or more types of policy rules to dynamically specify and modify system behavior at various levels of abstraction, including business, system, and device implementation. The system and method allow for specifying, instantiating, managing, and removing sets of temporary or permanent additions and/or modifications to the attributes or behavior of a set of objects, relationships, scripts, and/or applications of a device, module, subsystem, or system, without having to change the underlying code of these objects, relationships, scripts, and/or applications. The systems and methods enable attributes, methods and/or relationships (e.g., associations, aggregations, and/or compositions), as well as constraints on any of these elements, to be dynamically added or changed at runtime without changing any underlying code of the components being managed by instantiating and manipulating object instances in accordance with certain policy rules.

  • Patent number: 9462429
Abstract: Users can be alerted of important missed calls while away from their mobile device by sending missed call notifications to contacts of the user, which may include friends, family, colleagues, or other people/entities associated with the called party. The missed call notifications may include text or automated voicemail messages, email messages, and/or messages sent via a social networking site or service to name a few, and can specify information pertaining to the missed call and/or the calling party. Missed call notifications can be triggered when one or more predefined conditions are met, such as when the mobile device is deemed not to be in the possession of the user and/or the missed call is deemed to be important. Missed call notifications can originate from the mobile device or a network device.

  • Patent number: 9461795
Abstract: Transitioning from basic higher order MIMO channel estimation to enhanced higher order MIMO channel estimation (and vice-versa) can be accomplished through the signaling of high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) shared control channel (HS-SCCH) orders to next-generation user equipments (UEs). A base station can be configured to send an HS-SCCH order indicating activation of scheduled pilot channels, and then begin transmitting the scheduled pilot channels after receiving an ACK message from at least one next-generation UE. A base station can also be configured to send an HS-SCCH order indicating de-activation of scheduled pilot channels to next-generation UEs scheduled for downlink transmission, and then stop transmitting the scheduled pilot channels after receiving ACK messages from each next-generation UE. Alternatively, scheduled pilot channels may be activated/de-activated without receiving an ACK message from some or all of the next-generation UEs scheduled for downlink transmission.

  • Patent number: 9450864
Abstract: Embodiments relate generally to systems and methods for transitioning a system from a tradition network to a Software Defined Network (SDN) enabled network. In some embodiments, the systems and methods may comprise the use of a Path Computation Element (PCE) as a central controller. Smooth transition between traditional network and the new SDN enabled network, especially from a cost impact assessment perspective, may be accomplished using the existing PCE components from the current network to function as the central controller of the SDN network is one choice, which not only achieves the goal of having a centralized controller to provide the functionalities needed for the central controller, but also leverages the existing PCE network components.

  • Patent number: 9450895
Abstract: Messaging policies can be dynamically updated based on operations, administration, maintenance, and provisioning (OAMP) data generated by data plane entities of a messaging network. For example existing messaging policies may be dynamically modified based on OAMP data generated by message brokers and/or network elements (e.g., queues). As another example, new messaging policies may be dynamically created based on the OAMP data. As another example, an updated set of messaging policies may be selected from a pool of policies based on the OAMP data. Dynamically updating messaging policies can be achieved using information model processing frameworks, such as the next generation directory enabled networks (DEN-ng) model. Various events may trigger the creation of new messaging policies and metrics, such as adding new data plane entities and/or network elements to the network, receiving new messaging instructions, etc.

  • Patent number: 9451540
Abstract: Embodiments are provided for supporting network selection for wireless networks and network service providers/operators. The embodiments include procedures that integrate wireless network and service provider/operator selection policies and methods. In an embodiment, the UE obtains a network selection policy from a network, and hence generates a list of candidate wireless networks according to the network selection policy. The UE then selects from the list a wireless network to connect to according to a service provider selection policy. Such procedures improve Access Network Discovery and Selection Function (ANDSF) based wireless local area network (WLAN) selection with service provider selection capability. The procedures also collaborate ANDSF based policy and existing I-WLAN selection, and resolve conflicts between 3GPP WLAN selection and ANDSF policy for WLAN selection.

  • Patent number: 9451643
Abstract: Embodiments are provided for a mechanism for supporting multiple 3GPP Packet Data Network (PDN) connections over a WLAN. Multiple gateway interfaces, each corresponding to a different PDN, are established over a single connection, via the WLAN, between a UE and an access gateway. A PDN access configuration protocol (PACP) is provided to configure the association between the IP interface on the access gateway and the corresponding 3GPP PDN/APN connection, and exchange the PDN setup between the UE and the access gateway. The PACP mechanisms allow signaling APN information and associating corresponding IP context at the access gateway, setting up and tearing down connection context between the UE and PDN gateway (P-GW), and supporting session continuity when the UE moves to another access gateway. The mechanisms support using Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) for IPv4 and Neighbor Discovery for IPv6.
