Abstract: System and method of ad hoc on-demand routing by virtue of central control. A central controller of a network can communicate directly with a route-requesting network device regarding discovery of a data transmission path and perform route computation. A source network device may query the central controller with a unicast route request. In response, the central controller can identify a feasible route based on the topology information of the network. The central controller may also receive a broadcast route request as long with other network nodes. As a result, the source device can be offered to select from two resultant routes, one provided by the central controller in a centralized manner and the other provided by the destination device. Further, the central controller can be used specifically for computation of constrained routes by incorporating global constraints. The central controller may be a software defined network (SDN) controller.

Abstract: An optical signal receiver tracks local oscillator frequency offset (LOFO) and compensates for the phase distortion introduced in the received signals as a result of utilizing the local oscillator within a coherent detection scheme. This phase distortion is basically a constant phase rotation caused by the LOFO and implementation of the receiver using coherent detection and a digital interferometer instead of a conventional (yet complex) carrier phase estimation or recovery scheme. With an optical receiver implemented in this manner, the requirement of using a precise local oscillator laser with low frequency offset is less important.

Abstract: Embodiments are provided to provide a distributed transaction manager supporting repeatable read isolation level in Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) database systems without a centralized component. Before starting a transaction, a first node identifies a second node involved in the transaction, and requests from the second node a snapshot of current transactions at the second node. After receiving the snapshot from the second node, the first node combines into a reconciled snapshot the snapshot of transactions from the second node with current transactions at the first node. The first node then transmits the reconciled snapshot to the second node and starts the transaction using the reconciled snapshot. A branch transaction is then started at the second node in accordance with the reconciled snapshot. Upon ending the transaction and the branch transaction, the first node and the second node perform a two phase commit (2PC) protocol.
Abstract: A client requests access to a resource (e.g., a file) via a node of a storage system. The resource is stored in a directory structure. A directory in the directory structure that includes the resource and that does not have any locks that conflict with the requested access to the resource is identified and selected. A revocable access privilege (e.g., a lock) on the selected directory is awarded to the node accessed by the client, and a directory-to-node association is established. Another association between the requested resource and the node is also established. If there is a subsequent request for the resource or for another resource within that directory, then a revoke notice for the directory access privilege is sent to the node.
