    Abstract: This invention relates to superior bioadhesive compositions having time extended adhesive properties comprising a non-toxic carrier and a polymer having between about 45 and about 70 weight % of units having the structure ##STR1## between about 50 and about 30 weight % of units having the structure ##STR2## and 2 to 7 weight % of an amine salt containing a lactam functionally derived from A and/or B, wherein R is hydrogen, alkoxy, phenyl, carboxy or --N lactam having from 3 to 6 carbon atoms; R.sub.1 is C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkylene and R.sub.2 is C.sub.2 to C.sub.4 alkylene; said copolymer having a number average molecular weight of about 40,000 to about 500,000 and a relatively small particle size. The invention also relates to the method of synthesizing and using the above composition.

    Abstract: A multi-ply radiation dosage indicator, and method of manufacture, is disclosed including a first ply having visible indicia thereon and a second ply having a radiation sensitive zone overlying the indicia of the first ply. The radiation sensitive zone is capable of changing opacity in response to exposure to a radiation dosage exceeding a predetermined threshold so as to change the visibility of the indicia thereby providing an indication as to whether the indicator has become irradiated. An optical filter ply may be provided overlying the indicia, and the indicator also may be provided with a transparent protective outer ply. A pressure sensitive adhesive ply having a removable release sheet is employed for attaching the indicator to a substrate.

    Abstract: This invention relates to a radiation curable crosslinkable composition containing (a) from about 0.1 to about 5 wt. % of an initiator containing at least 25% cationic initiator, (b) from about 0 to about 60 wt. % of a polymerizable vinyl ether, epoxide, vinyloxy alkyl urethane or acrylate and (c) from about 35 to about 99.9% wt. % of a polyfunctional alkenyl ether having the formulaA[(CH.sub.2 O).sub.m (Z).sub.r CH.dbd.CHR].sub.nwherein A is a carbon atom, --OCH.dbd.CHR or [C.sub.1 to C.sub.10 alkyl].sub.4-n ; R is C.sub.1 to C.sub.6 alkyl; Z is C.sub.2 to C.sub.8 alkyleneoxy; r has a value of from 0 to 6; m has a value of from 0 to 1 and at least one of r and m has a positive value; n has a value of from 1 to 4, with the proviso that m is 0 and n is one when A is --OCH.dbd.CHR, n has a value of 2 or 3 when A is [C.sub.1 to C.sub.10 alkyl].sub.4-n and n has a value of 4 when A is carbon.

    Abstract: A filter apparatus having a bag filter subassembly for collecting contaminating material. The bag filter subassembly includes a bag filter having a top end portion and a gasket ring having a goove receiving the top end portion. The gasket ring has a pair of opposite, upright, axial handles each having a finger-grip, loop portion and a resilient stem portion. The upright handles, which are used for lifting the bag filter from an enclosure vessel deflect down to a radial position when a cover is positioned on the vessel and also spring up when the cover is removed.

    Abstract: In this invention, at least two monomers are grafted onto hydroxy-containing cellulose polymer. The invention thus provides a polymer of a cellulose containing a hydroxy group on which is grafted, by replacement of the hydrogen atom of the hydroxy group, with a copolymer having a polymerized lactam-containing moiety and a polymerized quaternized ammonium-containing moiety. The ratio of the polymerized lactam group of the quaternized ammonium moiety in the grafted copolymer can be predetermined to provide polymers which are particularly useful in the hair treatment industry.

    Abstract: What is described herein is a process for making a copolymer of high specific viscosity by polymerization of maleic anhydride and a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl vinyl ether monomer. The invention involves polymerizing said monomers to form a slurry of said copolymer in excess alkyl vinyl ether and toluene and is characterized by the steps of: (a) precharging a reactor with C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl vinyl ether as solvent at a reaction temperature, (b) feeding a mixture of maleic anhydride and a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl vinyl ether in substantially stoichiometric amounts, preferably with a slight excess of the alkyl vinyl there, and at a selected rate, into said precharged reactor, and (c) simultaneously feeding a predetermined mixture of toluene and a polymerization initiator continuously over substantially the entire period of polymerization.

The alpha-olefin comonomer is a hydrophobic, straight chain, unsaturated hydrocarbon such as dodecene or tetradecene, which is present in the terpolymer in predetermined amounts relative to the hydrophilic maleic anhydride component, to provide a terpolymer having a suitable HLB for these applications.

    Abstract: What is described herein is a precipitation polymerization process and terpolymer products produced thereby. Polymerization is carried out in a reaction mixture of a vinyl lactam, e.g. vinyl pyrrolidone or vinyl caprolactam, a polymerizable carboxylic acid, e.g. acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, and a hydrophobic monomer, e.g. lauryl methacrylate, in a predetermined compositional range, in the presence of a polymerization initiator, and in an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent, particularly a C.sub.3 -C.sub.10 saturated hydrocarbon, which is branched or unbranched, cyclic or acylic, and, preferably, is heptane or cyclohexane. The terpolymers are obtained in high yield, as a white powder, which can be filtered and dried easily.
