Patent number: 5714709Abstract: Objects are detonated by placing charges adjacent respective ones of the objects and connecting the charges to a time fuse by means of respective explosive cords for detonating all of the charges simultaneously when the time fuse fires. The time fuse can be set by fitting a clock to the time fuse. The clock has separate timer mechanisms which can be wound-up simultaneously and which prevent the clock from being fitted to the time fuse if the timer mechanisms have run down asynchronously. An adapter can be attached to the time fuse for releasing a safety of the time fuse upon receiving a remote signal such as an encoded radio signal.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1996Date of Patent: February 3, 1998Assignee: Gebruder Junghans GmbHInventors: Wolfgang Schillinger, Wolfgang Zehnder, Bernd Less, Werner Rudenauer

Patent number: 5576510Abstract: An impact fuse for a projectile comprises a firing needle and a main detonator carried by a rotor. The rotor is rotatable about an axis, upon launching of the projectile, and is rotated by centrifugal force from a safety position to a firing position in which the firing needle is aligned with the main detonator. Upon target impact, the rotor is displaced axially to cause the firing needle to detonate the main detonator. Acceleration forces occurring upon launching cause a piercing pin to activate a delay detonator. After a pre-selected time delay, the activated delay detonator emits a gas which displaces the rotor axially and produces detonation of the main detonator, in the absence of target impact.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1995Date of Patent: November 19, 1996Assignee: Gebruder Junghans GmbHInventor: Werner Rudenauer

Patent number: 4779533Abstract: In a fuse for projectiles, a timing ring is mounted rotatably around the longitudinal axis of the fuse, whereby the ignition time or the ignition delay time may be set. To resist rotation of the set timing ring, the timing ring is secured by means of a friction system comprising a friction ring with a friction nut abutting against it. By screwing-down the friction nut, a frustoconical outer surface of the friction nut bears against a frustoconical inner surface of the friction ring to increase the resistance to rotation of the friction ring and thus the timing ring.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1987Date of Patent: October 25, 1988Assignee: Gebruder Junghans GmbHInventors: Walter Winterhalter, Wolfgang Schillinger

Patent number: 4715281Abstract: A switch is adapted for use in a projectile for actuating an electrical explosives-igniter in response to impact of the projectile. The switch includes a stationary electrical contact and a movable electrical contact. An actuator moves the movable contact against the stationary contact to complete an electric circuit in response to projectile impact. The actuator comprises a ball movable toward the movable contact. The ball is seated in a conical recess to enable the ball to move toward the movable contact even when the projectile does not impact along its longitudinal axis. The movable contact may comprise a cone-like array of flexible arms which engage the ball; movement of the ball flexes one or more of the arms into engagement with the stationary contact. Alternatively, the movable contact may comprise a linearly movable bolt engaged by the ball. A movable weight may be positioned behind the ball and adapted to engage the ball upon projectile impact to urge the ball toward the movable contact.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 1986Date of Patent: December 29, 1987Assignee: Gebruder Junghans GmbHInventors: Horst Dinger, Horst Moosmann

Patent number: 4535695Abstract: A fuse is used in a spin-type projectile. A percussion cap is mounted in a rotor which is normally disposed in a safety position. Rotation of the rotor to a firing position wherein the percussion cap is aligned with a firing pin is prevented by two independently operating safety devices prior to firing of the projectile. A first safety device comprises a conventional centrifugal mechanism which normally holds a bush within a recess of the rotor but releases same when the projectile spins. A second safety device comprises the firing pin which is urged into engagement with the rotor recess by a spring. An inertia disk is moved, in response to spinning of the projectile, to a position holding the firing pin out of engagement with the rotor recess. This enables the rotor to rotate to its firing position. When the projectile spin slows down or when the projectile impacts the target, the inertia disk can be moved aside as the firing pin enters the percussion cap.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1983Date of Patent: August 20, 1985Assignee: Gebruder Junghans GmbHInventor: Walter Winterhalter

Patent number: 4490051Abstract: An electromechanical short interval timer has an actuating dial which can be manually rotated from a rest position to establish a time-elapse period. An electric motor returns the dial to its rest position. A timing circuit delivers electric pulses to drive the motor. A frequency selector switch is connected to or within the timing circuit whereby the pulse frequency can be varied. In this way, the time elapse period which is set by a given amount of dial rotation can be varied in a simplified manner. The dial activates a signal emitter before reaching its rest position, and simultaneously activates a timer circuit to continue returning the dial to its rest position. The dial engages a movable stop at both ends of its 360 degree travel stroke which assumes that the dial travels exactly 360 degrees.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1983Date of Patent: December 25, 1984Assignee: Gebruder Junghans GmbHInventors: Hans Flaig, Egon Rapp, Herrmann Brede, Wolfgang Ganter

Patent number: 4473766Abstract: A stator comprises a one-piece U-shaped stator sheet having a pair of elongate parallel legs. The legs form pole shoe bridges at their front ends for their reception of a driven motor. At least one of the pole shoe bridges interconnects the legs adjacent their front ends. A coil-carrying bobbin is mounted on one of the legs, the length of the wound coil being longer than its diameter. A separate yoke sheet is fastened to the legs adjacent rear ends thereof to secure the bobbin on the leg. The stator is formed by first stamping-out a stamping which includes the parallel legs and the yoke, with the yoke being integrally attached to the legs by means of webs. After the stamping undergoes the usual pretreatment, the yoke sheet is separated from the legs, whereupon the coil bobbin is slipped onto the leg from the rear. Then, the yoke sheet is secured to the rear ends of the legs to prevent removal of the coil bobbin.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1982Date of Patent: September 25, 1984Assignee: Gebruder Junghans GmbHInventors: Walter Obergfell, Hans Flaig, Robert Wolber, Max Stubner

Patent number: 4464991Abstract: A fuse for a spinning projectile comprises a rotor having safety elements which prevent rotation of the rotor to an active position. The safety elements are arranged such that when the safety elements are properly installed, the center of gravity of the rotor induces rotation of the rotor in a first direction toward the active position. An escapement mechanism regulates the rate of rotation of the rotor in such first direction. A stop prevents rotation of the rotor in the opposite direction. When a safety element is missing, the center of gravity is positioned to induce rotation of the rotor in such opposite direction in which the rotor cannot rotate.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1982Date of Patent: August 14, 1984Assignee: Gebruder Junghans GmbHInventor: Hans Kaiser
