Abstract: The present invention relates to facilitating the delivery of messaging service messages, such as those provided through short messaging services and multimedia messaging services, to a dual-mode terminal through a wireless network as well as through either a public switched telephone network (PSTN) or data access network using a terminal adaptor. The terminal adaptor is capable of providing local wireless communications with the dual-mode terminal, when it is within communication range of the terminal adaptor.
Abstract: A method includes receiving, at a first endpoint, session data associated with a first Internet Protocol (IP) packet. The IP packet is associated with a session within a Session over Internet Protocol (SoIP) network and the session is associated with a call. An instruction, based on the session data, is sent from the first endpoint to a second endpoint. The instruction is configured to trigger the second endpoint to modify a priority indicator associated with at least one of the first IP packet or a second IP packet associated with the call.

The apparatus also includes X discrete switching apparatus each having N ones of the W network interfaces, as well as a plurality of switching-expansion interconnects each interconnecting ones of the X switching apparatus, such that the W network interfaces are collectively interconnected in a non-blocking manner.
Abstract: A media gateway includes a non-packet switching matrix operable to switch non-packetized data, a packet switching matrix operable to switch packetized data, a plurality of processing resources coupled to the non-packet and packet switching matrices, each processing resource processing a substantially equal load of multimedia sessions processed by the media gateway without inactive protecting resources.
Abstract: A session controller configured to receive a data packet from a packet-switched network having multiple communication links is disclosed. The disclosed session controller is further configured to define a call-routing policy based on layer-five information, layer-two information, layer-three information and layer-seven information from the data packet. The call-routing policy is configured to define a least-cost routing (LCR) call route for an ingress call over at least one of the plurality of communication links. The LCR call route is associated with an operational cost that is lower than an operational cost associated with at least one other call route over at least one communication link from the plurality of communication links. The session controller is also configured to associate the ingress call to an egress-call peer based on the call routing policy.
Abstract: Communication apparatus having interfaces for exchanging data with first and second neighbors, a memory for storing codec information regarding the communication apparatus and a control entity operative to detect a message from the first neighbor, the first message being indicative of codec information regarding an originating entity. In response, the control entity assesses compatibility between the codec information regarding the originating entity and the codec information regarding the communication apparatus. If the assessment is positive, the control entity self-identifies the communication apparatus as a candidate for terminally supporting a subsequent codec-bypass negotiation with the originating entity. If the assessment is negative, the control entity self-identifies the communication apparatus as a candidate for non-terminally supporting such negotiation.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for dynamically loading signaling definition files for operations involving multiple signaling variants. Transmission links that transmit communications corresponding to one of several signaling variants are associated with one of several signaling definition files, where each signaling definition file corresponds to one of the signaling variants and, thus, can be employed during switching, signaling, and other processing of the communications without requiring such processing to be specifically hard-coded, or even designed, for each individual signaling variant.

Abstract: Presently described is a system and method for switching multimedia data communications, including but not limited to Voice over IP (VoIP) telephony, cable TV, digital audio and video. The system utilizes a single, integrated device to provide all PacketCable-compliant functionality, including enhanced user privacy, compliance with CALEA, E911 and other mandated services not available in conventional distributed PacketCable systems. High speed and efficient, low cost operation are provided by means of an optimized data unit encapsulation scheme for internal switching and routing. A proprietary fiber optic backplane and removable optical connectors are used to enable lightspeed internal communications hot-swapping of components. Furthermore, the present system is extensible to all forms of digital data switching and is secure, resistant to Denial of Service attacks, and fault-resilient.

Abstract: Methods and systems for providing redundant telephony call processing in geographically separate locations are disclosed. First and second telephony call processing hosts are provided in first and second geographic locations separated from each other. The telephony call processing hosts are located on the same LAN, which is also divided among the geographically separated locations. The geographically separate LAN or LANs are bridged using either a customer's IP network or isolation routers associated with the redundant telephony call processing hosts.

Abstract: The present invention allows calls that are controlled by a multimedia subsystem (MS) to employ bearer paths that are supported in whole or in part by a circuit-switched subsystem (CS). As such, calls controlled by the MS can have a portion of the bearer path provided through the CS when needed or desired. To facilitate such control, a session control signaling path is established between a user element currently supported by the CS and a remote user agent (RUA), which represents the user element in the MS. While a portion of the bearer path for the call is supported by the CS, the session control signaling path extends the reach of the MS to the user element.
Abstract: A method includes receiving a first media-content packet associated with a first session within a Session over Internet Protocol (SoIP) network. The first media-content packet is associated with a quality-of-service parameter. A transmission priority value associated with the first media-content packet is identified based on a value of the quality-of-service parameter. A priority indicator associated with the first media-content packet and/or a second media-content packet is modified based on the transmission priority value. The priority indicator indicates a priority to transmit the first media-content packet and/or the second media-content packet over a connection within the first session and/or a connection within a second session.

Abstract: A voice over Internet protocol communication system and method provides infrastructure components as intermediaries between networks, the components include multi-protocol session controllers and a multi-protocol signaling switch as well as a management system. The session controllers process calls and participate in the calls that flow through it. The session controllers process calls that are either at the edge of the network or at the core of the voice over Internet protocol network. The session controllers associate calls with one another in call peers for incoming calls as ingress call peers and for outgoing calls as egress call peers. A centralized database of call routing policies is provided to the session controllers. The session controllers provide cost management, topology hiding, and inter-working, or conversion, of calls from SIP networks to H.323 networks for both voice and video.
Abstract: The present invention dynamically determines whether call control for a call from a user element should be anchored in a multimedia subsystem (MS) or in a circuit-switched subsystem (CS) based on the location of the user element. Calls may be anchored in the MS regardless of whether the user element is currently served by a cellular network of the CS or a WLAN of the MS. In particular, the anchoring decision is based on whether the user element is within an MS anchoring zone, which defines an area or areas where calls for the user element should be anchored in the MS. Accordingly, when the user element is outside of the MS anchoring zone, calls for the user element are not anchored in the MS. When the user element is within the MS anchoring zone, calls for the user element are anchored in the MS.
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for synchronizing a subscriber profile in a plurality of domains is described. In one embodiment, the method includes receiving a profile update request message from an application server to modify an Internet protocol (IP) domain subscriber profile. The profile update request message is forwarded to a home location register (HLR). A cellular domain subscriber profile is modified in accordance with the profile update request message. Similarly, an updated subscriber profile data is received from the HLR. The updated subscriber profile data is converted in the IP domain. The converted updated subscriber profile data is sent to the application server.

Abstract: A switch that interconnects networks provides a scheduling algorithm that determines a number of active events to be processed by a processor in the switch. The active events involve processing of bearer traffic. A schedule tailored to the number of active events is generated. In response to a change affecting the schedule, the schedule is modified. The active events are processed by the processor according to the modified schedule.
