  • Patent number: 9042235
Abstract: Systems and methods for determining peer to peer communication paths between service providers are presented. In one embodiment the method is carried out in a peer-to-peer interconnect controller. The method may include obtaining default route information associated with a subscriber on a foreign service provider network in response to a request for route information, the default route information comprising identification of a peer access point designated for peer-to-peer interconnection. The method may also include generating a directed query for additional peer-to-peer interconnection routes in response to the default route information. Additionally, the method may include obtaining one or more candidate routes from the foreign service provider network in response to the directed query. In one embodiment, the method may also include selecting one of the candidate routes for establishing a peer-to-peer connection with the subscriber of the foreign service provider network.

  • Patent number: 8948160
Abstract: The present invention relates to providing services for circuit-switched calls from an Internet Protocol (IP) based packet network. In essence, a call originating from or intended for a subscriber that is served by a telephony switch, such as an end office or mobile switching center, in a circuit-switched network is intercepted and routed by the telephony switch to a service node via a subscriber emulator. The subscriber emulator acts as a liaison between the telephony switch of the circuit-switched network and the service node of the packet network. Preferably, the subscriber emulator presents itself to the service node as a user agent, which acts on behalf of a subscriber that is served the telephony switch. The service node provides any requisite processing of the call to implement services for the call.

  • Patent number: 8934481
Abstract: The present invention provides a solution to maximize the chance of completion for an ISUP to SIP direction call by enabling a bigger factor for converting ISUP hop counter to SIP Max-Forwards value than the reverse direction thus enabling more hops in the SIP network. Enabling a bigger factor for ISUP to SIP direction can cause loops without special considerations. This invention provides an algorithm that prevents a “loop condition” that can arise at the interface boundary of two telephone networks, known by their standard names 1SUP and SIP networks. The present invention solves the “loop condition” problem by adjusting the Hop Counter and Max-Forward parameter values in a predetermined manner such that the adjusted parameter values break the cycle of providing the same parameter values between networks at the network boundary for an uncompleted connection, or break an endless “loop condition”.

  • Patent number: 8934609
Abstract: A mechanism is described that enables encrypted end-point communications in a VoIP network to be accessed by a service provider. The mechanism includes a session information retrieval component which gathers session information such as encryption keys for each session that traverses a network element. The encryption keys may be used to decrypt data to make it available for lawful interception. A media stream monitoring component monitors media streams and verifies that the identified keys for each session are valid, to ensure continuity in compliance with LI regulations. Advantageously a security alert component may be used to controls further session operation for those sessions identified as potential security risks. With such an arrangement, the service provider can satisfy the legal requirement to provide interception, verify that the accuracy of the legal interception support and take appropriate steps to handle security risks.

  • Patent number: 8908541
Abstract: The subject matter described herein includes methods, systems, and computer readable media for intelligent optimization of digital signal processor (DSP) resource utilization in a media gateway. In one method, it is determined in a media gateway whether predetermined conditions exist for DSP-less IP-IP switching for a call. In response to determining that the predetermined conditions exist, DSP-less IP-IP switching is implemented for the call in the media gateway. After implementing the DSP-less IP-IP switching for the call, it is determined whether a predetermined event occurs that requires insertion of DSP resources during the call. In response to determining that the predetermined event occurs, the DSP resources are inserted into the call during the call.
