Patent number: 5191801Abstract: A sampling pump is provided suitable for pumping a discrete quantity of either a liquid or a gas per pump stroke from a flow line to a sample vessel. An operator unit drives a piston within the pump bore, and controls the stroke of the piston and thus the quantity of fluid pumped per stroke. A balanced check valve mechanism controls flow from the pump bore to the pump outlet port, and is provided within and carried by the piston. Line pressure acts on the operator end of the piston to assist the operator in driving the piston during its power stroke. A manifold may be secured to the pump body, and has a flow path therein which is in communication with the inlet port to the pump bore. The pump may also be used for injection purposes to introduce a selected quantity of fluid to a high pressure line.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1991Date of Patent: March 9, 1993Assignee: Precision General, Inc.Inventors: Paul V. Patent number: 5180939Abstract: An improved device for generating an alternating electrical current is disclosed, employing a stationary electrical exciter coil and inductive ouptut coil, and a pair of reciprocating elements to selectively alternate between a plurality of magnetic flux field paths. The reciprocating elements each have relatively staggered magnetically permeable portions for alternatingly establishing one of the magnetic flux field paths. The alternating flux field paths, each passing through the center axis of the inductive output coil, cause the reversal of the direction of magnetic flux flow through the center axis, inducing the inductive coil to generate an alternating output current.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 1992Date of Patent: January 19, 1993Assignee: Cummins Power Generation, Inc.Inventor: Mark A. Patent number: 5173579Abstract: The invention comprises a differential pressure switch including a housing which defines a cavity. A diaphragm with a pair of magnets mounted thereon is attached within the housing and vertically disposed across the cavity. This divides the cavity into a high pressure chamber and a low pressure chamber. A high pressure port and ducts in the housing place the medium to be detected in communication with the high pressure chamber. A low pressure port and ducts in the housing place the medium to be detected in communication with the low pressure chamber. The ducts also allow the chambers to drain. A reed switch is attached to the housing proximate the first magnet for maintaining the reed switch in an open state. A third magnet is positioned on the side of the diaphragm opposite the reed switch and in opposition to the second magnet for setting the switch. The third magnet may also be used to adjust the pressure differential required to actuate the reed switch.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 1992Date of Patent: December 22, 1992Assignee: Precision General, Inc.Inventor: Spencer M. Patent number: 5170091Abstract: A noble-gas flashlamp having a self-replenishing mercury-pool cathode. The lamp includes a lamp envelope which is transparent to UV radiation and which forms a linearly extending discharge chamber for holding a noble gas discharge material. At the cathode end of the discharge chamber the envelope forms a cavity or bubble communicating with the discharge chamber. The cathode of the lamp is formed by a cathode electrode and a pool of liquid mercury in the cavity. The electrode is both electrically and thermally conducting, and the pool of liquid mercury covers the electrode and is in heat exchange relation with the electrode in the cavity. For enhanced heat transfer the cathode electrode extends beyond the lamp envelope so that it may be brought into direct contact with the lamp coolant material. The anode comprises an electrically and thermally conducting anode electrode at said anode end of the discharge chamber.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 1990Date of Patent: December 8, 1992Assignee: Ultraviolet Energy Generators, Inc.Inventor: Alexander Wekhof

Patent number: 5124131Abstract: An ultraviolet processing chamber for treating contaminated waste water and the like. The processing chamber includes a chamber body defining a passageway through which the water under treatment flows. An enclosed volume is defined which contains an array of linear UV lamps and which includes a protective wall formed of a material substantially transparent to UV radiation. Patent number: 5118078Abstract: A fully sealing butterfly valve throttles flow rates through a flow channel and completely ceases flow. A throttle plate rotates into a close position and then moves axially to seat against a seal. The axial movement directly corresponds to rotation of an actuator shaft to improve valve control for the entire range of throttle plate movement from a full open position to a seal position. Additionally, the present butterfly valve employs a self-centering throttle plate adapted to float within the valve central bore. The throttle plate adjusts its positioning about an annular seal to achieve an effective seal entirely around its circumference.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1991Date of Patent: June 2, 1992Assignee: Tylan General, Inc.Inventor: Paul M. Patent number: 5053640Abstract: A voltage reference circuit employs a bandgap cell to establish a voltage reference, stabilized relative to the bandgap voltage of silicon, and a compensation circuit for compensating non-linear temperature dependence of the bandgap stabilized voltage reference. A two or three transistor type bandgap cell may be employed to establish the bandgap reference voltage along with a voltage divider network to adjust the output reference voltage relative to the bandgap voltage of silicon. The compensation circuit preferably employs a compensation resistor in the resistor divider network, and a switching circuit for switching current therethrough. This provides empirically determined adjustments to the output reference voltage by switching current through the compensation resistor in accordance with predetermined temperature thresholds.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1989Date of Patent: October 1, 1991Assignee: Silicon General, Inc.Inventor: Daniel Yum

Method for forming dielectrically isolated semiconductor devices with contact to the wafer substrate
Patent number: 5049521Abstract: A method for forming a dielectrically isolated semiconductor devices on a semiconductor substrate. An epitaxial layer is grown on a wafer having a thin buried oxide layer. Trench regions are etched through the epitaxial layer to the underlying oxide layer. A dielectric isolation layer is formed on the sidewalls of the trench regions so as to isolate an active region of the epitaxial semiconductor material. The trenches are etched to the underlying semiconductor substrate and the semiconductor material is selectively epitaxially regrown in the trench regions. Semiconductor devices are formed in the isolated active regions. Contacts are made to the active regions of the semiconductor device and to the wafer substrate through the epitaxially regrown trench regions.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1989Date of Patent: September 17, 1991Assignee: Silicon General, Inc.Inventors: Richard H. Patent number: 5012431Abstract: A method for generating the characteristics of a set of colors involves selecting at least two, and typically more reference colors. Each of the selected reference colors is described by a set of color characteristic data indicating the reflectance of each color at each of a set of predetermined wavelengths; and descriptions of the intermediate color samples are generated by computer the relative proportions of each base color which characterizes each intermediate color and calculating a reflectance value at each wavelength for the color to be generated proportionate to the reflectance values for each base color at the corresponding wavelength. A set of color samples is created as a result of the method for generating the characteristics of the colors and arranged in a geometry indicative of the method.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 1990Date of Patent: April 30, 1991Assignee: Colwell/General, Inc.Inventor: Ralph Stanziola

Patent number: 4945273Abstract: A rotor has outside conductors and inside conductors. The outside conductors are connected together at spaced connection points to form an outside loop which is preferably triangular. Each inside conductor has an outer end connected to one of the connection points, and an inner end provided with an output electrical connection. Each outside conductor and the inside conductors connected to its connection points form an inside loop that occupies only a portion of the rotor's circumference. The rotor lies in oppositely oriented magnetic fields which are disposed so that the total magnetic flux through all of the inside conductors varies during rotation, and the total magnetic flux across the outside loop is zero at all times during rotation.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1989Date of Patent: July 31, 1990Assignee: Pinkerton Generator Inc.Inventor: Joseph F.
