Abstract: The invention provides methods and kits for diagnosing a renal disease in a patient or for predicting the risk of a patient for developing a renal disease. In one embodiment, the invention provides a method for diagnosing a renal disease in a patient, comprising determining the level of a ubiquitin fragment having a mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) of 6188 (ubiquitin m/z 6188), or the level of a nucleic acid encoding ubiquitin m/z 6188, in a sample derived from said patient, wherein the substantial absence or a reduced level of less than 25% of ubiquitin m/z 6188 or the nucleic acid encoding ubiquitin m/z 6188 compared to a control is indicative of the renal disease in said patient.
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods for inducing and enhancing apoptosis in pathogenic cells. In particular, the present invention relates to the use of GnRH II antagonists for inducing and enhancing apoptosis of specific types of tumor cells, i.e. breast cancer and malignant melanoma as well as gynaecological cancers like endometrial or ovarian cancer, expressing the GnRH II receptor as well as to methods relating thereto. In addition, new GnRH II antagonists are provided.
Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of popcorn as material that provides structure and that stabilizes dimensions, for lignocellulose-containing molded articles, such as wood/composite materials, and also to the use of popcorn as binder for formaldehyde in wood/composite materials.

Abstract: An oxygen-bridged bimetallic complex of the general formula (I) Cp2R1M1-O-M2R22Cp??(I), wherein Cp is independently a cyclopentadienyl, indenyl or fluorenyl ligand which can be substituted, or a ligand isolobal to cyclopentadienyl, R1, R2 independently are halide, linear or branched or cyclic alkyl, aryl, amido, phosphido, alkoxy or aryloxy groups, which can be substituted, M1 is Zr, Ti or Hf, and M2 is Ti, Zn, Zr or a rare earth metal. The complex can be useful as a polymerization catalyst.

Abstract: The invention relates to the use of an antibody which can specifically bind to chemokine receptor CCR2 for producing a medicament utilized for the treatment of multiple sclerosis and/or rheumatoid arthritis in a subject that is preferably a primate or a human. In another embodiment, the invention relates to the use of an antibody which can specifically bind to chemokine receptor CCR2 for producing a medicament that is utilized for depleting monocytes in subjects suffering from multiple sclerosis and/or rheumatoid arthritis. The invention further relates to corresponding in vitro methods and therapeutic methods. And antibody which binds to CD 14, for example, can be used in addition to the antibody that can bind to CCR2.
Abstract: In an ex vivo method of differentially diagnosing dementias selected from a group of demetias, which includes vascular dementias and frontotemporal lobe degenerations, a concentration of at least one carboxy-terminally truncated amyloid ? peptide species as a biomarker is determined in a body fluid obtained from a patient, the at least one carboxy-terminally truncated amyloid ? peptide species being selected from the group of species consisting of A?1-38, A?1-37 and A?1-39; and the concentration of the at least one carboxy-terminally truncated amyloid ? peptide species is compared to a threshold concentration value for the respective one carboxy-terminally truncated amyloid ? peptide species.
