  • Patent number: 5800271
Abstract: A protective device for a driveshaft (1) has a connecting cap (9) and sliding ring (10) for connecting to a joint yoke (4) of a universal joint (2). The connecting cap (9) connects with a protective cone (1 2). The protective cone (12) includes a fixing portion (16) which fixes it on the connecting cap (9) by one or several resilient locking elements (22) which are connected to the sliding ring (10). The resilient locking elements (22) enable the protective cone (12) to be axially slid onto the connecting cap (9) without requiring any additional auxiliary means. However, the locking elements (22) can only be opened by deliberately actuating at least one locking element by a tool, to enable access to the joint (2) for maintenance purposes.

  • Patent number: 5772521
Abstract: The invention relates to a protective device which is supported on the two universal joints (2, 2') by connecting caps (8) and sliding ring. Furthermore, each connecting cap (8) is formed to allow a protective cone (12) to be connected thereto. Protective devices of said type provide protection against contact and are stationary, while the driveshaft (1) rotates. Each connecting cap (8) is attached by spokes (19) to a supporting ring (13) which supports the protective cone (12) from the inside. When the protective cone (12) is subjected to radial loads, for example if the driveshaft is stepped on unintentionally, the purpose of the above measure is to prevent the protective cone (12) from contacting the components of the universal joints (2, 2') which it covers.

  • Patent number: 5733196
Abstract: A torque limiting coupling (5) for a driveline driving agricultural implements has driving members (16) which, with reference to the rotational axis (15), are displaced inwardly from a torque transmitting position into a disconnected position. If overloading occurs, the driving members (16) are automatically moved to re-engage a groove (45) in the coupling sleeve (42) if the positions of the driving members (16) and the torque transmitting faces correspond to one another. Also, a switching ring (22) loads the driving members (16) with centrifugal segments (36') which, in the case of overloading, are released by the switching ring (22), thus preventing the latter and in consequence the driving members (16) from assuming the torque transmitting position as long as a predetermined limit speed is still exceeded. This measure ensures that the wear at the driving members and torque transmitting faces of the coupling sleeve is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5718634
Abstract: A torque limiting coupling (1) has a coupling sleeve (5), a coupling hub (2), and driving elements (12) settable between a torque transmitting position and a disconnected position. A switching ring (27) and loading balls (24) are provided which, in the torque transmitting position, load the driving elements (12) radially inwardly. If the driving elements (12) give way in their disconnected position, the balls (24) are pushed radially inwardly until the switching ring (27) is able to slide over the balls (24) and prevent them, via a bore portion, from displacing radially outwardly. This ensures that, if the coupling hub and coupling sleeve continue to rotate relative to one another, the driving elements (12) cannot re-engage the recesses and thus assume the torque transmitting position.

  • Patent number: 5704432
Abstract: A coupling and centering device is attached to a journal (38) of a carrying frame (37) of an agricultural implement. The coupling and centering device has a catching ball (7) and a catching profile (14). The catching profile (14) has a sleeve (15) and a catching plate (25) which are connected to one another. The sleeve (15), in the fitted condition, enters a bore step (12) of the catching ball. The catching plate (25) is arranged relative to the sleeve (15) such that the transverse bore (19), for receiving the lynch pin, is arranged in the region of the wall of the catching plate (25). Thus, in view of a predetermined length of the journal (38) and the provision of the fixing bore (39), the greatest possible guiding length of the sleeve (15) is achieved on the journal (38). In this way, the strength of the connection is affected positively.

  • Patent number: 5702306
Abstract: A protective device for telescopic driveshafts used in driving agricultural implements has two protective tubes (8, 9) which are axially inserted into, and overlap, one another. The tubes (8, 9) are adjustable relative to one another along their longitudinal axis (5) and are made of plastics. The outer protective tube (8) includes three circumferentially distributed pairs of ribs ( 13, 14). The ribs (13, 14) are arranged at a distance from one another and a groove (11) is formed between the ribs (13, 14). Guiding webs (15) are provided between pairs of ribs ( 13, 14). The webs (15) project inwardly towards the longitudinal axis (5) from the inner face (12) of the outer protective tube (8). The webs (15) also project inwardly towards the longitudinal axis (5) and serve to center and radially support the tube (9). The outer face of the outer protective tube has a smooth finish. Thus, there are no projections which may possibly injure the operative when unintentionally rotating the protective device.

  • Patent number: 5582065
Abstract: A drive assembly has two bevel gear angle drives (9, 10) for driving an agricultural implement (2) via a tractor power take-off shaft. The assembly has a pivot bearing (11) which effects a pivotable connection between the two bevel gear angle drives (9, 10). To improve the bearing conditions between the two bevel gear angle drives (9, 10) the two housings (22, 23) of the bevel gear angle drives (9, 10) are provided with bearing sleeves (24, 25). The bearing sleeves (24, 25), in the fitted condition, project into the interior (34) of a housing (23), to reduce the axial distance between the two connecting journals (13, 16) associated with the bevel gears (41, 43) which engage the bevel gears (49, 57) arranged on the connecting shaft (67), thus improving the force receiving conditions.

  • Patent number: 5538474
Abstract: A length adjusting mechanism for a driveshaft has two tubular profiles, an outer profile (6) and an inner profile (7). The outer profile (6) includes two circumferentially offset drawn in wedges (8) which project inwardly beyond the inner face of the otherwise circular cross-section of the outer profile (6). The wedges (8) engage grooves (11) of an inner profile (7). The grooves (11) are also drawn in. In this way it is possible to produce a pair of profiles which are suitable to transmit high torques and which, furthermore, do not include any parts which project in a radially outward direction.

  • Patent number: 5509858
Abstract: A driveshaft for driving agricultural machinery has two profiled tubes which are movable one inside the other and serve to transmit torque. Two protective tubes (5, 6) are provided which are also axially movable one inside the other. To be able to lubricate the profiled tubes, a maintenance aperture is provided which, at a certain driveshaft length, is obtained as a result of the overlapping position of two apertures (11, 12) in the protective tubes (5, 6). However, when not used, the aperture (11) in the outer protective tube (6) is covered by a closing sleeve (9). When extending the driveshaft after moving the closing sleeve (9), for the purpose of providing access to the apertures, the closing sleeve (9) is automatically returned into the closed position by a cam (13). This design measure results in a higher degree of safety by ensuring that the apertures are always closed when the driveshaft is in operation.

  • Patent number: 5462303
Abstract: A side strut 6 for the lower steering arm of a three-point attaching device of a tractor is telescopic and has a first telescopic member 14 and a second telescopic member 15 which are able to carry out relative movements relative to one another along an adjustment axis 16. A locking pawl 19 may allow maximum possible relative movement or a limited amount of travel. Complete locking is also possible. For setting the various positions which the locking pawl 19 is able to assume relative to the telescopic members 14, 15, a fixing device 31 is provided which takes account of the respective stop regions 24, 30 for the locking pawl 19 or which, for the purpose of allowing the entire relative movement between the maximum limits, may be disengaged from the locking stops 23. This measure, in addition to permitting standard adjustment within the limits of the usual floating movement, allows a limited floating movement. Furthermore, it achieves complete locking and fixing in this position.
