  • Patent number: 10821769
Abstract: According to some embodiments, a double detection apparatus for a mail-piece inserter includes a detectable flag affixed to a rotating mail-piece gripper of a mail-piece rotary feeder. A stationary proximity sensor may generate a voltage output based on a presence of the detectable flag in a direction along a first axis normal to the rotation of the mail-piece gripper. A decision unit may then generate a double detect alert signal when a phase shift above a pre-determined threshold value is detected in the voltage output generated by the stationary proximity sensor. According to some embodiments, the decision unit may also generate a thin detect alert signal when a phase shift past another pre-determined threshold value is detected in the voltage output generated by the stationary proximity sensor.

  • Patent number: 10810404
Abstract: Embodiments relate to bioimpedence-based spoof detection in an optical biometric reader. For example, embodiments operate in context of a biometric reader having a platen integrated with substantially transparent bioimpedance source and receiver electrodes covered by a substantially transparent protective layer. A multi-frequency input signal can be injected from the source electrode into a purported skin site (through the protective layer), so that a response signal is received by the receiver electrode. The response signal is interrogated to formulate a dispersive bioimpedance response of the purported skin site to the input signal over multiple frequencies. A biometric spoof determination can then be made according to the dispersive bioimpedance response. The spoof determination can be used for spoof detection, presence detection, and/or other functions.

  • Patent number: 10730079
Abstract: According to some embodiments, a stacking assembly accepts mail-pieces traveling from a re-direct mechanism in a first direction and urges a leading edge portion of a mail-piece toward a registration wall of a sortation bin. The stacking assembly may include a plurality of neighboring cam shafts, each with at least one cam, arranged along the first direction, such that rotation of the cam shafts results in synchronized rotation of the cams to guide an incoming mail-piece. • Patent number: 10723595
Abstract: A method and assembly for operating at least two lifting gears in a group operation, where each lifting gear has a hoist via which a respective cable or chain can be raised or lowered. The hoists are first operated in a synchronous operating mode to perform a common lifting procedure to move a load supported by the hoists. At least one of the hoists involved in the common lifting procedure is then deactivated to switch from the synchronous operation into an individual operation or a multi-operation, with at least one of the hoists remaining activated to carry out a lifting or lowering process relative to each deactivated hoist. A load value is then determined for the at least one deactivated hoist and compared to a predetermined threshold value of the at least one deactivated hoist.
