  • Publication number: 20160009615
Abstract: Processes for the production of chlorinated propenes are provided. The processes proceed through the production of cyclic intermediate that is thereafter readily converted to a desired chloropropane, e.g., via selective pyrolysis. The process may be conducted using starting materials that are readily commercially available and/or that may be reacted safely in standard laboratory equipment so that capital cost savings may be seen. The process does not require the use of catalysts and yet, process conditions less extreme than many conventional processes for the production of chlorinated propenes are suitable, so that raw material and utility cost savings are also possible.

  • Patent number: 9234484
Abstract: An integrated snorkel intake inertial separator is provided to remove dust and dirt contaminants from the engine intake system prior to reaching the air cleaner. The snorkel initiates a cyclonic motion at the snorkel inlet that propagates downstream in a downpipe towards the air cleaner. The cyclonic motion is initiated by radial stators mounted in one embodiment in the snorkel inlet cap or, alternatively, further down the throat of the downpipe. The contaminants in the intake flow are transported radially outwards by the cyclonic motion and are then expelled via a series of extraction ducts formed in the snorkel downpipe. The extraction vents are perpendicular to the cyclonic flow allowing dirt, dust and water particles to be extracted by means of cyclonic motion and gravity. The exit slots are located in regions of low pressure generated by the external aerodynamic airflow around the snorkel.

  • Patent number: 9233666
Abstract: A vehicle includes both a transmission park mechanism and an electronic parking brake. As a failure management strategy, a controller monitors vehicle movement to verify that the park mechanism is successfully restraining the vehicle against movement. Specifically, when the driver releases the brake pedal with the transmission park mechanism commanded to restrain the vehicle, the controller waits for a predetermined amount of time. If the vehicle moves during this time, the controller commands application of the electronic parking brake. The controller may also command application of the electronic parking brake if the vehicle does not come to a stop after the transmission park mechanism is commanded to restrain the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 9233660
Abstract: A side impact system for a vehicle includes a trim panel and an armrest core supported by the trim panel. The armrest core is moveable translationally relative to the trim panel from a supporting position to a deployed position below the supporting position. An actuator is connected to the armrest core for moving the armrest core from the supporting position to the deployed position. In the supporting position, the armrest core may be adjacent a ribs of an occupant and, in the deployed position, the armrest core may be adjacent the hips of the occupant. The actuator may move the armrest core to the deployed position during a side impact of the vehicle to reduce the likelihood that the armrest core is pushed into the ribs of the occupant.

  • Patent number: 9233367
Abstract: A process for preparing a molybdenum sulfide-based catalyst comprises drying a precipitated molybdenum sulfide-based catalyst precursor, for example, a wet filter cake, such that a particulate catalyst precursor, containing from 12 to 15 percent by weight water, is formed. The particulate catalyst precursor is desirably in the form of free-flowing particles. The particulate catalyst precursor is then auto-reduced. A rotary furnace that subjects the catalyst precursor to at least two zones having distinct temperatures may be conveniently used for drying, auto-reduction, or both. The staged drying and auto-reduction steps reduce the tendency of the precursor to self-heat, which is undesirable because it reduces both the activity and selectivity of the final catalyst.
