  • Patent number: 9163721
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for performing a multiple gear downshift of a transmission gear by transiently operating in an intermediate gear. In response to air mass flow not reaching a threshold for CAC self-cleansing for a set duration, the transmission gear may be downshifted from a higher gear to an intermediate gear, and then to a requested lower gear. Downshifting through an intermediate gear may also be controlled based on the gear shift request and maximum air mass flow levels for engine misfire.

  • Patent number: 9162656
Abstract: A roll control system (16) for an automotive vehicle (10) is used to actively detect if one of the plurality of the driven wheels (12) is lifted. The system generates a pressure request to determine if the wheel has lifted. By comparing the change in wheel speed of a driven wheel to a change in wheel speed threshold the wheel lift status can be determined. The wheel speed change threshold may be dependent upon various vehicle operating conditions such as powertrain torque, braking torque and/or longitudinal force on the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 9166215
Abstract: A battery pack of the type that may be used in an electrically-powered vehicle comprises first and second arrays of cells disposed adjacent one another, and a housing enclosing the two arrays. The housing defines a cooling chamber surrounding heat transfer surfaces of the cells, a first manifold sealed from the cooling chamber and collecting gasses generated by the first array, and a second manifold sealed from the cooling chamber and collecting gasses generated by the second array. A tunnel connects the first and the second manifolds to allow passage of any collected gasses from the first manifold into the second manifold, and a discharge opening in the second manifold allows the collected gasses to escape from the housing. An electrically conductive bridge bar extends through the tunnel and connects the first array with the second array.

  • Patent number: 9162680
Abstract: A method of controlling a transmission and engine during a coasting downshift is particularly suited to transmission arrangements exhibiting strong inertia coupling. During the inertia phase of the downshift, a third clutch such as a torque converter bypass clutch is modulated to control output torque. Simultaneously, engine torque is modulated to control engine speed. The resulting control scheme is only semi-coupled.

  • Patent number: 9162674
Abstract: A hybrid vehicle operates in an electric-drive-only mode and one or more modes using an internal combustion engine. A control pedal is movable to respective positions by a driver for indicating a desired vehicle motion. A controller selectably activates the engine according to instantaneous values of a variable wheel output demand and a variable pull-up threshold. The pedal position is converted to a respective instantaneous wheel output demand in response to an initial value from a mapping relationship that is modified in response to a difference between the initial value and the variable pull-up threshold. The pull-up threshold may preferably be dynamically determined according to a state of charge of a battery for powering the electric drive. The modification to the wheel output demand preferably reduces the slope of the mapping relationship near the pull-up threshold to reduce pedal position sensitivity in a region near the dynamically varying pull-up threshold.
