Abstract: A system includes a processor configured to receive information relating to a vehicle state, designated to act as a trigger for a location check-in process. The processor is further configured to evaluate the state to determine if a trigger condition has been met and access a designated check-in site, when the trigger condition has been met. Also, the processor is configured to obtain user location information. The processor is additionally configured to provide the user location information to the check-in site for location updating.
Abstract: Fire resistant composite structures. As an example, a fire resistant composite structure can have a foam material, a geopolymer thermal protection layer adhered to the foam material, and a facing adhered to the geopolymer layer. The geopolymer thermal protection layer can be formed by curing geopolymer precursors having a silicon to aluminum ratio in a range of 1.0:0.1 to 1.0:3.3.

Abstract: A self-adjusting seat stiffness system that uses a tension member and tensioning device to maintain or increase tension in a seat component during a perceived vehicle dynamic event. The system may use an inertial latching spool for the tensioning device as an example of a way to maintain tension at a target acceleration of the spool by locking up the tension member, or may have a controller to control the tensioning member to provide variable tensions depending on varying perceived vehicle parameters. The tensioning of the tension member helps to avoid submarining of an occupant under a seatbelt due to unacceptable seat compression during a vehicle dynamic event.

Abstract: An integrated airbag in the inflated condition has a main airbag portion defining an upper chamber and a lower extended portion defining a chamber depending from the main airbag portion. The main airbag portion in the inflated condition acts against the head and torso of the occupant so as to generate a restraining force against the occupant, and the lower extended portion in the inflated condition acts against the pair of knees of the occupant so as to mitigate the femur forces on the knees of the motor vehicle occupant generated by contact with the lower portion of the instrument panel during the impact.
Abstract: A hydrocarbon trap assembly for use in an intake system of a motor vehicle engine includes a first duct having an interior recess adjacent an end thereof, the recess having a blind end; a second duct overlapping the first duct's end and closing off a second end of the recess; and a thermoformed hydrocarbon-adsorbing sleeve inside the recess and having a first edge adjacent the blind end and a second edge adjacent the second end of the recess. One or both ends of the sleeve may engage a hook formed on the respective first and/or second ducts. The second end of the sleeve may have a flange that fits into a gap between the ducts.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for adjusting a reference voltage for an intake manifold oxygen sensor based on ingestion of hydrocarbons from a fuel system canister and/or an engine crankcase. During conditions when purge or crankcase ventilation hydrocarbons are ingested in the intake aircharge, the intake oxygen sensor is transitioned from operating at a lower reference voltage to a higher reference voltage where the effects of the ingested hydrocarbons on the sensor output are nullified. An EGR dilution of the intake aircharge is estimated based on the output of the sensor at the higher reference voltage while an amount of hydrocarbons ingested is estimated based on a difference between sensor outputs at the higher and lower reference voltages.

Abstract: A vehicle system for automated recording may include a controller configured to receive a first sensor input to detect an occupant presence. The controller may communicate with a recording device in response to the sensor input. The recording device may activate in response to a positive occupant presence and deactivate in response to a negative occupant presence.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for adjusting ignition energy of the spark required for combustion of gaseous fuel injected during an exhaust stroke of a cylinder combustion event to reduce turbo lag. In one example, a method includes combusting a first amount of gaseous fuel during a compression stroke of a cylinder combustion event using a first ignition energy and combusting a second amount of gaseous fuel during an exhaust stroke of the cylinder combustion event using a second ignition energy, the second ignition energy lower than the first ignition energy. The second ignition energy may be adjusted based on in-cylinder pressure and cylinder load.
Abstract: A method for verifying the reliable operation of a fuel tank pressure transducer positioned within a fuel tank of a PHEV. The method detects the initiation of a refueling cycle, which leads to opening a system vent valve positioned between a carbon canister and a system vent, and opening a fuel tank isolation valve. A controller monitors fuel system pressure within the fuel tank and at the vent valve, and that device determines rates of change of the fuel system pressure within the fuel tank and at the outlet vent. Reliable operation of the fuel tank pressure transducer is indicated upon a determination that the rates of change of the fuel system pressure in the fuel tank and at the outlet vent are uniform within a predetermined range.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for injecting and combusting an amount of gaseous fuel during an exhaust stroke of a cylinder combustion event in order to reduce turbo lag and reduce a duration of time required for an exhaust catalyst to light-off during transient events. In one example, when an increase in torque demand is greater than a threshold, a first amount of gaseous fuel may be combusted during a compression stroke of a cylinder combustion event and a second amount of gaseous fuel may be combusted during an exhaust stroke of the combustion event. The second amount may be adjusted based on the increase in torque demand.
