Publication number: 20220284221Abstract: Systems and methods for generating a virtual view of a scene captured by a physical camera are described. The physical camera captures an input image with multiple pixels. A desired pose of a virtual camera for showing the virtual view is set. The actual pose of the physical camera is determined, and an epipolar geometry between the actual pose of the physical camera and the desired pose of the virtual camera is defined. The input image and depth data of the pixels of the input image are resampled in epipolar coordinates. A controller performs disparity estimation of the pixels of the input image and a deep neural network, DNN, corrects disparity artifacts in the output image for the desired pose of the virtual camera. The complexity of correcting disparity artifacts in the output image by a DNN is reduced by using epipolar geometry.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 2, 2021Publication date: September 8, 2022Applicant: GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLCInventors: Michael Slutsky, Albert Shalumov

Publication number: 20220283458Abstract: A light blocking screen includes a liquid crystal array mounted to a window. The liquid crystal array has a plurality of liquid crystal (LC) pixels, each of which is selectively darkenable. A controller is operatively connected to the liquid crystal array and configured to darken a set of the LC pixels, such that the darkened set of LC pixels limits light passage through the window in one or more selected areas. The LC pixels need not limit light passage through the entire window. The controller may determine a location of a glare source relative to the window and a location of a user proximate the window, and then darken the set of the LC pixels in an area between the glare source and the user, such that the glare source is limited from shining onto the user. The screen may be incorporated into vehicles or buildings.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 2, 2021Publication date: September 8, 2022Applicant: GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLCInventor: Benjamin J. Patent number: 11433646Abstract: A metallic component includes a core formed of steel. A zinc alloy layer is disposed on the core. The zinc alloy layer is formed of zinc and a very small amount of aluminum, such as 0.14 weight percent or less. A method of creating a component includes providing a steel core, providing a zinc bath consisting of essentially of 0.01 to 0.14 weight percent aluminum, and hot dipping the steel core into the zinc bath to form a zinc coating on the steel core resulting in a zinc-coated steel component. The aluminum may be provided in even lower contents, such as less than 0.08 weight percent, or even less than 0.05 weight percent. The zinc-coated steel component may then be spot welded to another component without first annealing the zinc-coated component. Rather, heat treating is performed locally at the weld joint by the welding procedure alone.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2019Date of Patent: September 6, 2022Assignee: GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLCInventors: Charles Enloe, Michael J.
