Abstract: A method for determining when to operate a voltage recovery process for recovering a reversible voltage loss of a fuel cell stack in a fuel cell system. The method includes estimating an irreversible voltage loss of the fuel cell and an actual voltage of the fuel cell stack, and determining whether a difference between the estimated irreversible voltage loss and the estimated actual voltage exceed a threshold, and if so, the voltage recovery process is performed.
Abstract: A powertrain for a vehicle includes an engine and a transmission having an input member, an output member, and a neutral state in which torque is not transmitted from the input member to the output member. A first motor/generator is coupled to the engine. A second motor/generator is coupled with vehicle wheels directly or indirectly through the transmission. The first motor/generator acts as a generator when powered by the engine to provide electric power to the second motor/generator. The second motor/generator acts as a motor when receiving electric power from a battery or from the first motor/generator. A shift selector is moved by a vehicle operator to establish an electric propulsion mode in which the transmission is in the neutral state and the second motor/generator functions as a motor.

Abstract: Controlling combustion in a spark-ignition direction-injection internal combustion engine includes providing an initial injected fuel mass timing and an initial spark ignition timing. A combustion phasing error is monitored and compared with each of the initial injected fuel mass timing and the initial spark ignition timing. An adjusted injected fuel mass timing and an adjusted desired spark ignition timing is determined based on the comparing for maintaining a desired combustion phasing.

Abstract: A method for operating a driver assistance system of a vehicle, wherein the system is configured for the automatic actuation of an element chosen from a braking device, a drive device, a steering device and a warning device, is provided. The method includes determining a first parameter characterizing a possible collision of the motor vehicle with an object situated in front of the vehicle in the direction of travel of the vehicle. A second parameter chosen from an instantaneous transverse acceleration, an instantaneous yaw rate, an instantaneous chronological alteration of the transverse acceleration, and an instantaneous chronological alteration of the yaw rate, all of the motor vehicle, is determined. If the second parameter does not exceed a predetermined threshold value, an automatic actuation takes place of the element and if the second parameter exceeds the predetermined threshold value, an automatic actuation of the element of the motor vehicle is omitted.
Abstract: A method for operating a driver assistance system of a motor vehicle wherein the driver assistance system is configured as a parking aid system is provided. The method includes determining a parameter characterizing an impending parking procedure of the motor vehicle in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle. A first distance d1 of a lateral face of the motor vehicle on a driver's side to a parking space periphery on the driver's side is determined and a second distance d2 of a lateral face of the motor vehicle on a passenger's side to a parking space periphery on the passenger's side is determined. Information for a centered parking of the motor vehicle relative to the parking space periphery on the driver's side and to the parking space periphery on the passenger's side based on the first distance d1 and the second distance d2 is issued by an issuing device.
Abstract: A separator for use in a lithium ion battery to provide a physical and electrically insulative mechanical barrier between confronting inner face surfaces of a negative electrode and a positive electrode may be formed predominantly of heat-resistant particles. The heat-resistant particles, which have diameters that range from about 0.01 ?m to about 10 ?m, are held together as a thin-layered, handleable, and unified mass by a porous inert polymer material. The high content of heat-resistant particles amassed between the confronting inner face surfaces of the negative and positive electrodes provides the separator with robust thermal stability at elevated temperatures. Methods for making these types of separators by a phase-separation process are also disclosed.
Abstract: A non-stoichiometric perovskite oxide having the general chemical formula LaXMnOY, in which the molar ratio of lanthanum to manganese (“X”) ranges from 0.85 to 0.95, can be used in particle form as an oxidation catalyst to oxidize NO to NO2 in an exhaust aftertreatment system for a hydrocarbon-fueled engine. The oxygen content (“Y”) fluctuates with variations in the molar ratio of lanthanum to manganese but generally falls somewhere in the range of 3.0 to 3.30. The crystal lattice adjustments spurred by the non-stoichiometric molar ratio of lanthanum to manganese are believed responsible for an enhanced NO oxidative activity relative to similar perovskite oxides with a higher molar ratio of lanthanum and manganese.
