  • Publication number: 20120294028
Abstract: A ball and socket assembly includes a support having a plurality of arms extending between a face plate and a base, and defining a socket cup. A spherical end of a ball stud is disposed within the socket cup in a snap fit engagement with the plurality of arms. A radial biasing device is disposed annularly about an outer periphery of an upper portion of the plurality of arms to resist movement of the plurality of arms radially outward relative to the longitudinal axis, thereby increasing a retention force resisting removal of the spherical end of the ball stud from within the socket cup.

  • Publication number: 20120293317
Abstract: A method for notifying, indicating or otherwise alerting a driver when it may be desirable to switch to a different transfer case mode. According to an exemplary embodiment, the method uses one or more environmental and/or vehicle conditions to evaluate a current transfer case mode and to determine if it is the most preferable or optimal mode. If the current transfer case mode is not optimal, then the method may recommend that the driver manually switch transfer case modes by notifying or alerting them through a visual and/or audio message. In one example, the method recommends a transition from a four-wheel mode to a two-wheel mode, or vice-versa, with a visual message on an instrument panel gauge.

  • Publication number: 20120293036
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a rotor assembly includes placing a generally cylindrical rotor core in a die. The rotor core has axial grooves spaced about a perimeter of the rotor core. The grooves may be formed by stacked laminated disks. Material is cast around the annular rotor core in the die such that the cast material forms conductor bars that fill the grooves and first end ring portions at opposing ends of the rotor core connected with the conductor bars. Each of the first end ring portions has substantially a first axial width. The rotor core with cast conductor bars and cast first end ring portions is then removed from the die. A respective second end ring portion is welded to each of the cast first end ring portions to form end ring assemblies. Each second end ring portion has a second axial width greater than the first axial width.

  • Publication number: 20120296502
Abstract: A vehicle includes an engine, a power source, and a motor. The power source outputs electrical energy in accordance with an actual state of charge, and the motor generates electrical energy when provided with torque from the engine. A position sensor generates a route signal representing drive cycle data between a present location of the vehicle and a selected destination. A controller determines a reference state of charge of the power source at the present location from the drive cycle data and commands the engine to charge the power source if the actual state of charge is below the reference state of charge determined for the present location. A method includes receiving the selected destination, generating the route signal, determining the reference state of charge from the drive cycle data, and commanding the engine to charge the power source in accordance with the reference state of charge.
