Patent number: 9970772Abstract: A method for localizing a vehicle in a digital map. GPS raw measurement data is retrieved from satellites. A digital map of a region traveled by the vehicle based on the raw measurement data is retrieved from a database. The digital map includes a geographic mapping of a traveled road and registered roadside objects. The registered roadside objects are positionally identified in the digital map by earth-fixed coordinates. Roadside objects are sensed in the region traveled by the vehicle using distance data and bearing angle data. The sensed roadside objects are matched on the digital map. A vehicle position is determined on the traveled road by fusing raw measurement data and sensor measurements of the identified roadside objects. The position of the vehicle is represented as a function of linearizing raw measurement data and the sensor measurement data as derived by a Jacobian matrix and normalized measurements, respectively.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2016Date of Patent: May 15, 2018Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLCInventors: Shuqing Zeng, Jeremy A. Patent number: 9970780Abstract: A system and method for providing navigation routing options to a vehicle driver, including estimated fuel consumption and fuel cost. A server collects data from a large number of road vehicles driving different routes, where the data includes road grade, average speed, stop/start and acceleration/deceleration info and vehicle specifications, and the data is collected via a telematics or other wireless system. The server also receives map data, point of interest data and real-time traffic data from their respective providers. When a driver of a road vehicle requests navigation routing from a start point to a destination, the server provides multiple routing options including not only distance and time for each routing option, but also fuel consumption and cost. The estimated fuel consumption is computed using models based on the crowd-sensed data from the other vehicles driving the routes, where the models include a physics-based model and a machine learning model.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 2016Date of Patent: May 15, 2018Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLCInventors: Fan Bai, David E. Patent number: 9969231Abstract: A damper assembly includes a housing. A method of forming a damper assembly includes extruding the housing formed of aluminum. The housing defines a first chamber and a first passage spaced from each other, with a first inlet fluidly connecting the first chamber and the first passage. A piston is disposed in the first chamber and is movable in a first direction and a second direction opposite the first direction. A first restrictor valve is disposed in the first passage. The first restrictor valve is configured to restrict a flow of liquid into the first passage from the first chamber and the first inlet as the piston moves in one of the first and second directions which causes the liquid in the first chamber to increase a pressure applied to a first side of the piston to dampen movement of the piston.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2015Date of Patent: May 15, 2018Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLCInventors: Robert P.
