  • Patent number: 9926022
Abstract: An airflow management cover for a vehicle subsystem arranged proximate a section of the vehicle to guide oncoming ambient airflow when the vehicle is in motion includes a convex body. The convex body has an exterior surface shaped to redirect an external portion of the oncoming ambient airflow around the vehicle subsystem to thereby minimize aerodynamic drag and reduce aerodynamic lift on the vehicle body. The airflow management cover also includes an aperture defined by the convex body and configured to exhaust a stream of a subsystem portion of the oncoming airflow to rejoin with the redirected external portion of the oncoming airflow after the subsystem portion of the airflow has passed across the subsystem. The airflow management cover additionally includes a fastening flange extending from the convex body and configured for mounting to the vehicle section. A vehicle having such an airflow management cover is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9926830
Abstract: A two-stroke engine includes a crankcase defining a cylinder bore, a piston moveably disposed within the cylinder bore, and a cylinder head that covers the cylinder bore. A wall surface of the cylinder bore, a piston combustion surface of the piston, and a head combustion surface of the cylinder head, cooperate to define a combustion chamber for combusting a fuel therein. A thermal conductivity reducing mechanism is disposed in thermal connectivity with at least one of the crankcase, the piston, and the cylinder head for reducing heat transfer from combusted fuel within the combustion chamber to at least one of the crankcase, the piston, and the cylinder head. The thermal conductivity reducing mechanism may include a layer of low conductivity material coating one of the surfaces defining the combustion chamber, or a void in the cylinder head and/or the crankcase adjacent the combustion chamber.

  • Patent number: 9928427
Abstract: A method for determining a wet surface condition of a road. An image of a road surface is captured by an image capture device of the host vehicle. The image capture device is mounted on a side of the host vehicle and captures an image in a downward direction. A region of interest rearward of the wheel of the host vehicle is identified in the captured image by a processor. The region of interest is representative of where rearward splash as generated by the wheel occurs. A determination is made whether precipitation is present in the region of interest by applying a filter to the image. A wet road surface signal is generated in response to the identification of precipitation in the region of interest.

  • Patent number: 9926995
Abstract: A strut includes a first end, a second end, a cylinder and a piston, wherein the piston is mechanically coupled to the first end and the cylinder is mechanically coupled to the second end. A fluidic chamber is formed between the cylinder and the piston. A first fluidic passageway fluidly couples the fluidic chamber and a fluidic reservoir, and a second fluidic passageway fluidly couples between the fluidic chamber and the fluidic reservoir. A check valve includes an open-biased moveable valve element coupled to a balance spring, and the valve element interacts with a valve seat to control fluidic flow through the second fluidic passageway. The valve element is responsive to urging of the balance spring.

  • Patent number: 9925912
Abstract: An exterior lighting and object detection assembly for a vehicle operable in an exterior environment that includes an object includes a housing, a first light source, an inner lens, and an object detection device. The first light source is connected to the housing and emits light for a position light function of the vehicle. The inner lens is connected to the housing and has a first portion that receives and reflects the light from the first light source to the exterior environment of the vehicle to provide the position light function. The object detection device is connected to the housing and is operable to detect the object via an electromagnetic energy. The first portion of the inner lens is disposed between the object and the object detection device and is configured to permit the electromagnetic energy to pass through such that the object detection device detects the object.

  • Patent number: 9925865
Abstract: A fuel fill pocket mounting system includes a mounting bracket having an inboard surface and an outboard surface. The outboard surface is bonded to an interior surface of a sheet molded composite body panel. A filler housing is attached to the inboard surface of the mounting bracket. The filler housing includes a wall defining an interior space. A snap in bezel is attached to the filler housing within the interior space. The bezel includes an outer lip disposed against the wall of the filler housing. The bezel includes a rubber material in sealing engagement with a fuel inlet pipe to limit fuel leakage between the bezel and the fuel inlet pipe.

  • Patent number: 9926868
Abstract: A variety of methods and arrangements are described for controlling transitions between firing fractions during skip fire and potentially variable displacement operation of an engine. In general, cam first transition strategies are described in which the cam phase is changed to, or close to a target cam phase before a corresponding firing fraction change is implemented. When the cam phase change associated with a desired firing fraction change is relatively large, the firing fraction change is divided into a series of two or more firing fraction change steps—with each step using a cam first transition approach. A number of intermediate target selection schemes are described as well.

  • Patent number: 9925922
Abstract: A mirror assembly includes a stem attached to a mirror head. The stem includes a first portion directly attached to the mirror head. The first portion includes a catch. The second portion is attached to a support structure, and includes a retention portion. The catch of the first portion is engaged with the retention portion of the second portion for supporting the first portion and the mirror head relative to the second portion. Once the first portion is supported by the interaction between the catch and the retention portion, fasteners may be installed to fixedly attach the first portion to the second portion.

  • Patent number: 9926825
Abstract: An exhaust aftertreatment system for purifying an exhaust gas feedstream expelled from an internal combustion engine that is operable at an air/fuel ratio that is lean of stoichiometry is described. The exhaust aftertreatment system includes a plasma reactor disposed upstream of a selective catalytic reactor device. The plasma reactor is electrically connected to a plasma controller. The plasma controller controls the plasma reactor to generate ozone from constituents of the exhaust gas feedstream, and the ozone reacts to oxidize nitrogen oxide contained in the exhaust gas feedstream to form nitrogen dioxide. The nitrogen dioxide reacts with a reductant in the selective catalytic reactor device to form elemental nitrogen and water.
