Abstract: Systems, methods and compositions to produce fine powders are described. These include forming a hypereutectic melt including a target material, a sacrificial-matrix material, and an impurity, rapidly cooling the hypereutectic melt to form a hypereutectic alloy having a first phase and a second phase, annealing the hypereutectic alloy to alter a morphology of the target material to thereby produce target particles, and removing the sacrificial matrix to thereby produce a fine powder of the target particles. The first phase is defined by the target material and the second phase is defined by the sacrificial-matrix material. The sacrificial-matrix material forms a sacrificial matrix having the target material dispersed therethrough.

Abstract: A photonic circulator deployed on a chip-scale light-detection and ranging (LiDAR) device includes a first arm that includes a first waveguide that is bonded onto a first member at a first bonding region, and a second arm that includes a second waveguide that is bonded onto a second member at a second bonding region. A first thermo-optic phase shifter is arranged on the first member and collocated with the first waveguide, and a second thermo-optic phase shifter is arranged on the second member and collocated with the second waveguide. The magneto-optic material and the first thermo-optic phase shifter of the first member cause a first phase shift in a first light beam travelling through the first waveguide, and the magneto-optic material and the second thermo-optic phase shifter of the second member cause a second phase shift in a second light beam travelling through the second waveguide.

Abstract: The concepts described herein provide for a system, apparatus and/or method for fuel vapor capture on-vehicle for evaporative emission control. This includes a device for capturing fuel vapor on-vehicle that includes a canister device having a first port that is fluidly coupled to a head space portion of a fuel tank. The canister device defines a chamber that is fluidly coupled in series between the first port and a second port. A first Metal Organic Framework (MOF) material is disposed in the chamber to adsorb fuel vapor constituents.

Abstract: A system for inferring lane boundaries via vehicle telemetry for a road section is provided. The system includes a computerized remote server device operable to receive through a communications network sensor data describing lane markings upon roads bordering the road section, determine established lanes upon roads bordering the road section based upon the sensor data, receive through the communications network the vehicle telemetry generated by a plurality of vehicles traversing the road section, generate inferred lanes for the road section based upon the vehicle telemetry, match the inferred lanes to the established lanes to generate unified lane geometries, and publish the unified lane geometries.

Abstract: A light blocking screen includes a liquid crystal array mounted to a window. The liquid crystal array has a plurality of liquid crystal (LC) pixels, each of which is selectively darkenable. A controller is operatively connected to the liquid crystal array and configured to darken a set of the LC pixels, such that the darkened set of LC pixels limits light passage through the window in one or more selected areas. The LC pixels need not limit light passage through the entire window. The controller may determine a location of a glare source relative to the window and a location of a user proximate the window, and then darken the set of the LC pixels in an area between the glare source and the user, such that the glare source is limited from shining onto the user. The screen may be incorporated into vehicles or buildings.
Abstract: A rotary electric machine includes a rotor and a stator. The stator has windings and teeth extending radially from a stator core. Each tooth is separated from an adjacent tooth by a stator slot that opens to a radial stator-rotor airgap via a slot opening. The windings are positioned within each slot. Each stator tooth has a tooth tip with a surface profile configured to guide rotor flux away from areas of the windings proximate the respective slot opening. The tip surface profile may be a concave region, e.g., a dent/chamfer, and/or a convex region, e.g., a bump/bulge, and is formed in a distal end surface of the tip proximate the opening. The stator-rotor airgap is smaller at the convex region and larger at the concave region than elsewhere along the distal end surface. An electrical system includes the machine, a battery, and a power inverter module.
