Abstract: Methods are provided for securely loading software objects into an electronic control unit. The methods include receiving a first software object comprising a second level public key certificate, a first encryption signature and a first set of software. Once the first software object is received, validating the first second level public key is validated with the embedded root public key, the first encryption signature with the first second level public key certificate, and the first set of software with the first encryption signature. When the first set of software is valid, then the first second level public key certificate and the first set of software are stored to non-volatile memory. Once stored, a consecutive software object is received comprising only a consecutive encryption signature and a consecutive set of software from the programming source.

  • Patent number: 9340121
Abstract: A method and system for heating a vehicle battery, such as the type used for vehicle propulsion in a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). Depending on the battery chemistry involved, such batteries may not perform well in extremely cold environments. For instance, a lithium-ion battery can exhibit a high internal resistance when the battery is extremely cold, which in turn can negatively affect the available power or other capabilities of the battery. According to an exemplary embodiment, the method and system take advantage of the high internal resistance in a cold vehicle battery by purposely cycling electrical current in and/or out of the battery so that heat is created. This heat warms up the vehicle battery and thereby improves its overall performance and capabilities.

  • Patent number: 9342489
Abstract: A method of automatic identifying linking relationships of requirements in a plurality of requirement documents. Terms in the plurality of requirement documents are identified. A part-of-speech tag is assigned to each term. Each identified term is selected as a focal term. Co-occurring terms within a predetermined distance of the selected focal term are determined. A linking relationship probability is calculated for each co-occurring term associated with the selected focal term. The selected focal terms and associated co-occurring terms between the plurality of requirement documents are compared. A degree of linking relationship is identified between two requirements as a function of a comparison between selected focal terms and the associated co-occurring terms between the plurality of requirement documents. An analysis report identifying the degree of linking relationships between two respective requirements is output.

Abstract: A method of establishing traceability for embedded software systems. A design code database is provided for an embedded software system. A test suite database including a plurality of test cases is structured for testing design code of the embedded software system. The structuring of the test cases provides a correspondence from a respective test case to a respective portion of the design code. A processor receives a design code modification to the embedded software. An associated test case is identified for testing the modified design code being based on traceability data. The associated test case is revised to accommodate the modified design code. The modified test cases are integrated into the test suite. • Patent number: 9343760
Abstract: A system and method for reconditioning a fuel cell stack to recover stack voltage loss. The method includes first operating the fuel cell stack in a wet condition where the humidity level in the stack is above 100% to provide liquid water at the cell electrodes. The method then applies a low voltage potential to the stack that causes contaminants to be released from the catalyst surface of the cell electrodes. This step can include starving the cathode side of oxygen for a limited period of time. The method then causes water to flow through the stack so that the contaminants are flushed out of the stack. The process can be performed during vehicle operation where small amounts of voltage would be recovered or during vehicle service where a relatively large amount of voltage could be recovered.

  • Patent number: 9341088
Abstract: A control system for a vehicle includes a motor driver module, a correlation triggering module, a target phase angle module, and a correlation control module. The motor driver module controls an electric camshaft phaser of an engine based on a desired phase angle between a position of a crankshaft and a position of a camshaft. The correlation triggering module selectively generates a signal based on the position of the camshaft. The target phase angle module adjusts the desired phase angle to a predetermined phase angle in response to the generation of the signal. The correlation control module, in response to the generation of the signal: determines the position of the crankshaft when the camshaft is in a predetermined position; and selectively outputs a fault indicator based on a comparison of the position of the crankshaft and a predetermined crankshaft position range corresponding to the predetermined position.

  • Patent number: 9341261
Abstract: A torque converter clutch (TCC) control valve system for a motor vehicle transmission includes a dual valve assembly with a first exhaust line that opens to air and a TCC control valve assembly with a second exhaust line that opens to air. The TCC control valve assembly communicates with the dual valve assembly through a fluid line, and the TCC control valve assembly further communicates with a torque converter having a lockup clutch. When the lockup clutch is in a faulted open state, air is drawn into the dual valve assembly through the first exhaust line. The air flows through the dual valve assembly and from the dual valve assembly though the fluid line to portions of the TCC control valve assembly, and from the TCC control valve assembly to the torque converter. The air replaces hydraulic fluid in the torque converter, and the displaced hydraulic fluid from the torque converter exits through the second exhaust line.
