Patent number: 9327733Abstract: A method of controlling a clutch-to-clutch power-on upshift of a transmission includes defining a possible engine torque as a latched possible engine torque value. An on-coming clutch torque phase target value is defined as a latched on-coming clutch torque value, and held constant until a final ramp. A commanded engine torque is reduced and maintained to a maximum torque reduction value until a shift completion ratio is achieved. The commanded engine torque is increased until the commanded engine torque is equal to a restore ramp target value. Both the on-coming clutch torque and the commanded engine torque are simultaneously increased at a final ramp rate, such that the increase in the on-coming clutch torque parallels the increase in the commanded engine torque, until an actual engine torque is substantially equal to the possible engine torque, to complete the shift.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 2014Date of Patent: May 3, 2016Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLCInventors: James L. Patent number: 9329219Abstract: A control module includes an input module configured to operate in a normal operating state and a fault diagnosis state. The input module receives an input signal from a circuit module and generates a voltage based on the input signal. In the normal operating state, a fault diagnostic module determines whether the voltage is in a first range or a second range. The first range and the second range indicate that a fault is detected in the circuit module. The fault diagnostic module determines that the detected fault is a first fault type if the voltage is in the first range, transitions the input module from the normal operating state to the fault diagnosis state if the voltage is in the second range, and determines whether the detected fault is a second fault type or a third fault type based on the voltage in the fault diagnosis state.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 2013Date of Patent: May 3, 2016Assignee: GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLCInventors: Timothy P. Patent number: 9328645Abstract: A method for determining an over-temperature condition in an exhaust gas treatment system is provided. The method compares a current soot load in a particulate filter with a threshold soot load. The method compares each of a plurality of temperatures sensed by a plurality of temperature sensors with a threshold temperature. Based on determining that the current soot load in a particulate filter of the exhaust gas treatment system exceeds a threshold soot load and that one of the plurality of temperatures exceeds the threshold temperature, the method determines that the exhaust gas treatment system is in an over-temperature condition. Based on determining that the current soot load in the particular filter does not exceed the threshold soot load and that two or more of the plurality of temperatures exceed the threshold temperature, the method determines that the exhaust gas treatment system is in an over-temperature condition.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 2014Date of Patent: May 3, 2016Assignee: GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLCInventors: Vincent J. Patent number: 9331350Abstract: A diagnostic system for determining whether a rotor shaft of a compressor is unbalanced. The compressor includes a displacement sensor that measures the displacement of the rotor shaft as it is rotating. The sensor dynamic frequency signal is sent to a bandpass filter that filters out an eigen-frequency frequency that is a function of shaft elasticity and rotor dynamics. The filtered frequency signal is then rectified by a rectifier to make the filtered frequency signal positive. The rectified signal is then passed through a low pass filter that converts the rectified signal to a DC signal. The DC signal is then sent to a controller that determines if the amplitude of the signal is above a predetermined threshold, which indicates a problem with the balance of the compressor.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 2014Date of Patent: May 3, 2016Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLCInventors: Oliver Maier, Bernd Peter Elgas, Ulrich Dumke, Peter Willimowski

Patent number: 9328644Abstract: A method of estimating soot loading in a diesel particulate filter (DPF) in a vehicle exhaust system includes estimating an engine-out soot rate using a first neural network that has a first set of vehicle operating conditions as inputs. The method further includes estimating DPF soot loading using a second neural network that has the estimated engine-out soot rate from the first neural network and a second set of vehicle operating conditions as inputs.
