Abstract: A safety ski binding wherein the boot is releasably mounted on a sole plate which in turn is releasably secured to the ski so as to be released therefrom upon the application of forces of predetermined magnitude and direction. The sole plate may be mounted on the ski by two pairs of mounting elements, one of said mounting elements in each pair being carried by said sole plate, the other mounting element in each said pair being adapted for mounting on said ski. Said pairs of mounting means may be positioned in fixed spaced relation on opposite sides of the longitudinal center of said sole plate. One or both of said pairs of mounting elements may include a plunger of low profile not projecting above the upper surface of the sole plate. One or both of said low profile plungers may be positioned below said upper surface of said sole plate.
