Patent number: 5352071Abstract: A retaining collar assembly for use with a hole saw arbor assembly. The arbor assembly includes a shaft, a hole saw attached to the shaft, a drive collar retained on the shaft for engaging the hole saw and a spring retained on the shaft. The retaining collar assembly includes a retaining collar which is retained on the shaft and abuts the spring such that the spring urges the retaining collar towards the drive collar. An axial limiting area is disposed on the shaft spaced away from the collar with a retaining collar rotating area disposed therebetween. The retaining collar rotating area allows the collar to rotate about the shaft while the axial limiting area only allows axial movement and not rotary movement. Protrusions and recesses are formed on the retaining collar and drive collar to prevent rotary movement of the retaining collar and drive collar relative to one another when the retaining collar is positioned in a retaining position.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1993Date of Patent: October 4, 1994Assignee: Greenlee Textron Inc.Inventors: Paul Cochran, Thomas J. Patent number: 5334000Abstract: A powered line fishing device, which can also be used as a vacuum or a blower. The device includes a thin-walled container having a bottom, side walls and a mouth. A top plate is positioned over the mouth and an intermediate plate is positioned in the thin-walled container between the mouth and the bottom and is adjustably attached to the top plate. The vacuum/blower unit is positioned between the top plate and the intermediate plate. When the assembled top plate, intermediate plate, and the associated vacuum/blower unit is inserted into the thin-walled container, the intermediate plate seals against the inside surface of the walls. The intermediate plate provides support to prevent the thin-walled container from collapsing when the device creates a vacuum. The vacuum/blower unit, retained between the top plate and intermediate plate, are retained entirely within the thin-walled container to protect the vacuum/blower unit and lower the center of gravity of the device to provide greater stability.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 1993Date of Patent: August 2, 1994Assignee: Greenlee Textron Inc.Inventor: William F. Patent number: 5244319Abstract: A boring bit for boring holes in one or more workpieces such as wood and the like. An axially elongated shank portion of the boring bit has a tool engaging portion at one end and a head portion on a second end. A central axis longitudinally extends through the shank portion. The head portion includes a helically disposed surface on the end of the head portion which is frusto-conically sloped inwardly towards the central axis and generally towards the tool engaging portion. The helical surface has leading and following termini of which the leading terminus is advanced beyond the following terminus more than one-half of a helical revolution around the central axis along the shank portion. A cutting face, which is a planar surface, is perpendicularly spaced away from and extends parallel to the central axis. The cutting face intersects the leading terminus for scribing the bore circumference and scraping material from a workpiece when the boring bit is employed to form a bore in such a workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1991Date of Patent: September 14, 1993Assignee: Greenlee Textron Inc.Inventor: Paul Cochran

Patent number: 5226305Abstract: Briefly, and in accordance with the foregoing, the present invention comprises a roller assembly for use with a bending apparatus for bending conduit and the like. The bending apparatus includes a frame, a bending shoe associated with the frame and a drive device for controllably driving the bending shoe. The roller assembly provides a roller which pivotably adjusts to an outside surface of the workpiece to accommodate variations in the workpiece while it is being bent during a rolling operation. The roller assembly includes a shaft attached and supported by the frame, two pivot segments and two roller dies. The pivot segments are positioned along and spaced apart on the shaft and each has an arcuate surface in a facing orientation with the other pivot segment. The roller dies have facing ends and base ends and a pivot socket formed in the base end. The pivot socket is sized and dimensioned for cooperatively mating with the arcuate surface of the pivot segment.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1992Date of Patent: July 13, 1993Assignee: Greenlee Textron Inc.Inventors: Larry G. Patent number: 5142958Abstract: A DIN rail cutter and punching apparatus for cutting a DIN rail to a selected length and for punching at least one mounting slot therethrough at a desired angular orientation comprises a shear for cutting the DIN rail and a punch and die set which is operatively coupled for operation in unison with the shear. The DIN rail cutter comprises a shear for cutting the DIN rail and is arranged for removably receiving a cutting die for accommodating any of a plurality of cutting dies for cutting different shapes of DIN rail. A rotating punch and die set for punching a DIN rail at any of a plurality of angular orientations comprises a punch mounting block; a punch rotatably mounted in the punch mounting block; a die mounting block and a die rotatably mounted in the die mounting block; the punch mounting block and the die mounting block are mounted for relative movement so as to advance and retract the punch into an out of engagement with the die.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1990Date of Patent: September 1, 1992Assignee: Greenlee Textron Inc.Inventors: William F. Patent number: 5108235Abstract: A hole saw arbor assembly connectable to a source of torque comprises an arbor having a first end and a second end. A power tool mount is disposed on the first end, and threads are disposed on the second end of a construction capable of mounting a hole saw thereon. A collar mount area is disposed on the arbor proximate to the second end, and a collar retraction area is disposed on the arbor proximate to the first end. A drive collar has a central bore therein, and the arbor is disposed through the central bore. The drive collar is capable of translation between the collar mount area and the collar retraction area, is rotatable about the collar retraction area independent of the arbor, and is incapable of rotation about the collar mount area independent of the arbor. Means for retaining the drive collar about the collar retraction area is disposed on the arbor. The drive collar has drive pins associated therewith, and the drive pins are insertable into apertures in the hole saw.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1991Date of Patent: April 28, 1992Assignee: Greenlee Textron Inc.Inventor: Peter J. Patent number: 5074722Abstract: A rotary cutting devbice for cutting holes in a workpiece and a method of making a rotary cutting device. The method includes machining a notch across a face of a generally cylindrical body. The body has a longitudinally extending central axis and a central bore formed concentric therewith. Machining the notch forms at least one generally arcuate protrusion on a face of the body. A slot is formed through each of the protrusions resulting in two teeth being formed on either side of the mouth of the slots. A cutting tooth and a stabilizing tooth is formed on each side of the mouth of each slot formed in the body. The cutting tooth removes material from the workpiece and the stabilizing tooth limits the feed rate and prevents grabbing when a rotary motion is applied thereto.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1991Date of Patent: December 24, 1991Assignee: Greenlee Textron Inc.Inventor: Paul Cochran

Patent number: 4905557Abstract: The punch comprises peripheral cutting edges and lateral cutting edges. The peripheral edges cut a slug in the desired shape, for examples, rectangular, square, oval, trapezoidal, D and double D-shaped, etc. while the lateral edges cut transversely from one peripheral edge to an opposite peripheral edge, thereby splitting the slug. Lateral cutting edges provide a dividing line across the working face. Surfaces and cutting edges on each side of the dividing line are similar and canted at opposite angles. Lateral cutting edges and peripheral cutting edges at their juncture provide pyramidal cutting sections which initially pierce the workpiece and initiate lateral slug splitting. This split grows from the slug periphery toward the center. Splitting is complete before a substantial portion of the slug periphery is cut.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1988Date of Patent: March 6, 1990Assignee: Greenlee Textron Inc.Inventor: Larry Adleman
