  • Patent number: 8005681
Abstract: A speech dialog control module enhances user operation of a speech dialog system by translating an input signal unrecognizable by a speech dialog system into a recognizable language. A speech dialog control module includes an input device that receives a speech signal in a first language. A controller receives the input signal and generates a control instruction that corresponds to the received input signal. The control instruction has a language that is different from the input signal. A speech-synthesis unit converts the control instruction into an output speech signal. An output device outputs the output speech signal.

  • Publication number: 20110202153
Abstract: A receiving device for mobile reception of a receive signal including an audio signal associated with a currently received piece of music, and a method for playback in a mobile receiver are disclosed. A receiving circuit receives the receive signal and outputs the audio signal and information associated with the audio signal. The information includes one or more information fields associated with the currently received piece of music. An arithmetic unit evaluates the information associated with the audio signal. A database is configured for storing database entries. Each database entry includes data fields and associated audio data. The arithmetic unit assigns the information to an assigned database entry by comparing the information fields with the data fields. The arithmetic unit outputs the audio data of the assigned database entry based on a detected disturbance in the reception of the audio signal.

  • Publication number: 20110196817
Abstract: Systems and methods for analyzing acceleration as a road segment characteristic in a vehicle are provided for determining information about a route including for example, the estimated fuel consumption of the route. An example of a system includes a data storage medium for storing map data having road segments, a bus interface to a data bus for receiving measured values of a velocity or an acceleration from a velocity or acceleration sensor, a position data receiver configured to receive position data for determining a current position, and a system controller. The system controller is configured to identify a road segment associated with the current position. The system controller retrieves parameters of a probability distribution of acceleration associated with the identified road segment from the data storage medium. Updated parameters of the probability distribution of acceleration are determined from the measured values of the velocity or acceleration.

Abstract: A display device includes an integrated liquid crystal display and a backlight unit. The liquid crystal display is provided with a backlight system that includes a light-emitting element positioned along one or more sides of the display. In order to efficiently distribute and dissipate the heat produced by the light-emitting element, the backlight cover can cover the light-emitting elements and the area over the liquid crystal display. For shielding, the backlight cover can separate the display from an electronic circuit assembly. The backlight cover may be made monolithically of a heat-conductive material such as aluminum, as well as an electro-conductive material for shielding. The backlight cover may also provide mechanical support for the display device and mounting features to ease assembly and mounting to a target location. Such a display device may be deployed on a vehicle, for instance, as part of a vehicle navigation, communication, and/or entertainment system.

  • Patent number: 7957894
Abstract: An optimum route search may be conducted through the use of a tiling overlay on the network of road segments. Overlaying the tiling (grid) over the road segments allows for a reduction of the number of road segments considered for an optimum path as road segments can be evaluated on whether the road segment is part of an optimal path to the borders of a first tile and then successively larger frames of tiles around the initial tile. By reducing the number of road segments considered for the optimum route search to road segments that are part of optimal routes to various tile boundary edges, the computation of the optimum route for the route of interest may be quicker and less resource intensive than efforts to determine optimum routes through other methods.
